NFL Week 1: Five Must-Watch Games

By

It’s that time again!! The NFL is back and I am so excited!

Every week of this season I will be picking what I think are going to be the five biggest games of the week, whether for excitement, rivalry, playoff implications, or just a plain great game.

Week 1 of the 2018 NFL season offers some interesting match ups right off the bat! (Yes I’m mixing a baseball metaphor into this football article). From a Thursday Night match-up between NFC powerhouses to what’s sure to be an offense showdown between AFC powers to the league’s oldest rivalry with a new spin, there’s plenty to love about Week 1. Let’s get to it!

1. Atlanta Falcons at Philadelphia Eagles (Thursday 9/6, 8:20 pm)

This game pits the last two NFC Champions against each other and gives the defending Super Bowl champions a decent test right out of the gate. Nick Foles will be the starter for the Eagles, and while it certainly worked for them last time I am not as confident in his ability to lead the Eagles consistently. The supporting characters in Philly should be enough to give them the edge over the Falcons, but Matt Ryan, Devonta Freeman, and Julio Jones will put up a fight.

2. Houston Texans at New England Patriots (Sunday 9/9, 1:00 pm)

The Texans have what they need to make an interesting game against the Patriots in week 1, Deshaun Watson can be very difficult to defend against and the Patriots historically don’t usually have their defense together until mid-way through the season. Also without Julian Edelman it will be interesting to see where Brady goes with the ball, still this is the Patriots and I expect them to come away with the win.

3. Chicago Bears at Green Bay Packers (Sunday 9/9, 8:20 pm)

Aaron Rodgers meet Khalil Mack. I have to say this game got a lot more interesting than just your typical Bears Packers match up when the Raiders shockingly traded away Mack. I expect that the Packers and Aaron Rodgers were as surprised as the rest of us were and it will definitely be one of the best player match ups of week 1. The Packers should come away with this one, though I am already excited for the second round of this match up later in the year.

4. New York Jets at Detroit Lions (Monday 9/10, 7:10 pm)

The Jets are awful, and I gave them no shot at the AFC East this year but I am very excited to see what happens with the Detroit Lions this year. As a Patriots fan I have loved Matt Patricia for years and I can’t wait to see what he does with his own team. I am sure they will put out a full and complete defense and I am very excited to watch.

5. Los Angeles Rams at Oakland Raiders (Monday 9/10, 10:20 pm)

As anxious as the Packers now are to face off against Khalil Mack, Todd Gurley and the Rams are breathing an immense sense of relief. This California match up will be a good one to watch even without Mack. I have high expectations for the Rams this season so I am thrilled to see how they play in week one.
