The NFL playoffs started this weekend and they delivered….some blow-outs to be honest. Pittsburgh Steelers and Houston Texans cruised to victories on the AFC side of the bracket. On the NFC side, Seattle Seahawks and Green Bay Packers had a little trouble but pulled away at the end of their respective games.
So here at Fangirlish, we are going to pick one winner and one loser from each game. Now lets start with the opening game of the weekend.
HOUSTON TEXANS 27, OAKLAND RAIDERS 14
Winner: Brock Osweiler – I have been Brock Lobster’s biggest critic but he showed up on Saturday with a good performance. Throwing for a touchdown and running for one as well in the 27-14 victory, Brock silenced the critics – for one night at least
Loser: Jack Del Rio – Now, bad luck struck Oakland with quarterback injuries but Del Rio should have either let Connor Cook throw it around the field or not at all. Instead for most of the game, the Raiders played predictable offense and suffered for it.
SEATTLE SEAHAWKS 26, DETROIT LIONS 6
Winner: Seahawks Defense – Thomas Rawls and Doug Baldwin could have easily been picked but I went with the defense here. In a dominating performance, the Lions never made it into the red zone (Inside the opponent’s 20-yard line). Matthew Stafford could do nothing against a defense that looked like the one that won the Super Bowl a few years back.
Loser: Lions- The drought continues for Detroit and the 26-6 loss just adds a cherry on top of a awful second-half to the season.
PITTSBURGH STEELERS 30, MIAMI DOLPHINS 12
Winner: Le’Veon Bell – In the national spotlight, Bell showed up big with 167 yards rushing and 2 touchdowns. On a day Ben Roethlisberger had a couple turnovers, Bell was a steady hand and has Pittsburgh heading to chilly Kansas City next Sunday.
Loser: Jay Ajayi – A terrible end to a remarkable rookie season sadly as Ajayi only averaged 2 yards a carry in the 30-12 defeat. Miami had to leave the rushing game in the second half but Ajayi did not step up when he was sorely needed too.
GREEN BAY PACKERS 38, NEW YORK GIANTS 13
Winner: Aaron Rodgers – It’s one thing to be good. Another thing to be lucky. When you are playing as good as Rodgers is and as lucky as Aaron was with a touchdown Hail Mary at the end of the first half, it’s almost unbeatable. With out his main Wide Receiver and main Running Back, all Rodgers did was have a 4 touchdown game. Same old, Same old.
Loser: Odell Beckham Jr. – First off, the boat trip meant nothing to this game. No impact at all. However, Odell did not step up when his team needed him. Dropping a early touchdown that could have changed the momentum (as did another Giants wide receiver) lead to all eyes looking at you. Only a chilly day in Green Bay, Giants needed their playmakers to show up and Odell didn’t.
