The season 7 premiere of Once Upon A Time is almost upon us. I know, that’s a really bad pun, but it works here. The promo pics for the season are out, and I’m going to use this post to discuss them and speculate.
This one shows an adult Henry with his daughter, Lucy, and Cinderella, who is Lucy’s mom. In the season six finale, we saw Lucy come to Henry to ask for help to reunite her family by revealing to him that he is her father.
This plot sounds familiar, right? Correct. It’s the same plot that they had originally with Henry and Emma. I speculate there to be twists and turns along the way or it isn’t Once Upon A Time. How do Henry and Lucy find Cinderella? Why is Lucy alone? What is her backstory? So many questions to be answered. All this from just one picture, too.
Above I mention an adult version of Henry. Throughout OUAT, Henry has been either a pre teen or a teenager. This is the first time we see him as an adult. Andrew J. West takes over the role from Jared Gilmore. When I saw adult Henry in the finale back May, I was impressed by how well cast the role is.
I can’t wait to see this version on my TV screen dealing with the fact that he has a daughter and a new curse that apparently has many of his relatives under it. I was skeptical at first, but the more I see of it, the more it grows upon me. I’m always willing to give a chance to something. This falls in that category.
Now, on to Hook. I can’t write this article and not mention Hook. Let me first say, that this picture is amazing. From what we know about Hook is that under the new curse, he has an alter ego, very similar to what they’ve done with every curse they’ve done before.
My question about it is, how will they make it different so that it’s not the same story they’ve done before? The thing about it is that in the past, Hook hasn’t really been affected by a one of the curses before. This is one difference and I’m interested to see how this new aspect of the character is brought to life on screen.
I also have questions about his relationship with Emma. How do they handle it? Most of the concerns I’ve heard come from Hook and Emma shippers. They finally marry them and then here’s this curse? Also, with Jennifer Morrison leaving the show, many are worried that the ship will be messed up. We will have to wait and see.
How does Henry lose touch with Hook and Emma? I just love the dynamic these three characters have and I hope they touch on if the curse is what separates them or something else.
As one of the three remaining main characters still left, I speculate that Regina will be a major player this season. My question is when was the new curse enacted? Who enacted it? Is this someone upset with Regina? How do Regina and Henry drift apart? I have many questions I want answered about Regina and her plot this coming season.
Last, but never least is Rumple. If you notice in the captions, he’s still Rumple/Mr. Gold, where as Regina and Hook have at least their new alter ego’s name’s are mentioned. What’s the deal with that? From what we know, Rumple has a new alter ego too, or is this another plot twist with this character? The biggest plot twists that I never see coming always seem to come from Rumple. I really would not put it past Eddie & Adam to do something where Rumple remembers all along. They’ve done it before.
I hope for once, that isn’t the case. Also, since Rumple is Henry’s paternal grandfather, my question is how is their bond in season seven? They were never really close, but as an adult, will Henry be able to appeal to Rumple like he couldn’t as a teenager? I’d really love this relationship explored some. It always interested me.
We also know that Belle will appear in the fourth episode of the season, along with an adult Gideon. Will Gideon have been influenced by Rumple’s dark ways, or will Belle’s light make him see past it? I’m interested to see how living under this curse has affected them too.
Before I wrap this, I really want the low expectations that many fans have of this season, to be washed away by new ideas and new plots not done in the last six seasons. It can be difficult, but my hope is that they can face the tough criticism they’ve had about doing a soft reboot on the show and blow everyone’s minds. Of all the shows I watch, this one has kept me on my toes with the plot twists, and my only hope is that they can do that in a new and refreshing way.
Once Upon A Time has been moved from Sunday to Friday. The season seven premiere airs Friday, October 6, 2017 at 8 PM ET on ABC.
