Once Upon A Time Quotes To Make You Believe

A show about fairy tale characters, true love and happy ever afters should be able to deliver the good quotes, shouldn’t it? From heartwarming, to inspiring, to life-affirming, Once Upon a Time has always been excellent at being quote-worthy. And since the hiatus is driving us mad, why not make a list of the best Once Upon a Time quotes of them all? It’s either that or counting down the minutes, and we’d rather hold off on that particular form of torture till September. Besides, what better excuse is there for a re-watch? These are the quotes we use in daily life, the ones we paste in our Facebook pages, our tumblrs, even in front of our desks at work (guilty as charged!).

So, without further ado, here are my favorite Once Upon a Time quotes.

Snow White: You. You found me.

Prince Charming: Did you ever doubt I would?

Snow White: Truthfully, the glass coffin gave me pause.

Prince Charming: You never have to worry. I will always find you.

Ah, Snow. Charming! The good old days of the first season. This is still we standard for all quotes (and couples) who came after.

Emma Swan: People are gonna tell you who you are your whole life. You just gotta         punch back and say, “No, this is who I am”. You want people to look at you differently? Make them! You want to change things, you’re gonna have to go out there and change them yourself, because there are no fairy godmothers in this world.

The moment we (or at least I) fell in love with Emma Swan. This is a strong woman speaking to what makes her strong. This is a role model!

Daniel: Stop… just stop the pain.

                              Regina: How?

                              Daniel: Just… let me go.

Regina: No. No, I won’t lose you again. Without you, I’m lost. Daniel, come back to me.

                             Daniel: Can’t. Can’t.

                             Regina: But I love you.

                             Daniel: Then love again.

The most important messages are sometimes hidden in the most innocuous conversations. Daniel’s last words to Regina are a hard and yet important lesson. He didn’t say, keep going, and be happy, but he might as well have.

David: There is no hope.

Captain Hook: If there’s one thing I’ve gleamed from you hero types it’s that there’s always hope.

I have a soft spot in my heart for this quote, and for Hook. He isn’t saying this with derision, or with mockery, he’s saying it with hope. He wants to be one of the hero types. And, by the end of Season 4, he is.

Regina: Henry, I was wrong, too. It wasn’t your fault. It’s mine. I cast the curse out of vengeance. And I’m… I’m the villain. You heard Mr. Gold. Villains don’t get happy endings.

Henry: You’re not a villain. You’re my mom.

I really loved the theme for the last part of Season 4, and this quote is at the heart of it. Destiny is not written in stone, and you aren’t what other people say you are. You are who you decide to be.

Emma: You are glad to hear I got my heart broken?

Hook: If it can be broken, it means it still works.

It sounds harsh, but it is so, so true. There comes a point when you shut down, when you refuse to feel again. Emma is not there yet, and Hook can’t be anything but glad to hear that.

Gold: Belle. when we met, I wasn’t just unloved and unloving. I was an enemy of love. Love only brought me pain. My walls were up. But you brought them down. You brought me home. You brought life into my life and chased away all the darkness. And I vow to you I will never forget the distance between what I was and what I am. I owe more to you than I can ever say. How you can see the man behind the monster I will never know.

Knowing that Rumple lied, that he broke his wows, that he really did forget, doesn’t take away from the beauty of his words. In love, and in life, we shouldn’t aspire for perfection, is the message behind this. We should aspire to be better than the day before.

Hook: What the hell are you doing? You’re depriving me of a dashing rescue.

Emma: Sorry. The only one who saves me is me.

Another badass Emma moment! It’s great that Hook is coming to the rescue, but Emma is not your stereotypical fairy-tale princess. Emma is a modern heroine, who can rescue herself, and still take the time to appreciate the guy who wants to rescue her.

Gold: Maybe you should take a piece of advice from a man who has pushed away every chance of happiness because it was never enough. If it’s within your grasp, if you know where it is and who it’s with, then you should run to it, grasp it and never let it go.

For someone who always makes the wrong decision in the end, Rumple sure has good quotes. This is probably my favorite of his, the remnants of a man who is actually self-aware enough to know what he’s done wrong, even if he has no idea how to fix it.

Emma: If you’re afraid of losing your happy ending, that means you found it. What is it?

Hook: Don’t you know, Emma? It’s you.

I have a thing for Hook, have you noticed? You probably have. I swooned at this quote, and I swoon every time I read it, see the video or even hear it mentioned. There’s I love you, and there’s you’re my happy ending. I’m starting to believe the second one is an even bigger declaration.

Once Upon a Time returns to ABC on Sunday, September 27th.
