One Direction Fans Take on #ProjectHome

One Direction fans have power. Hands down one of, if not the, most powerful fandom in music. Twitter falls to their trends within minutes, and the media is just as wrapped up in the fans, as the band members themselves. Dedicated, talent and enthusiastic, One Direction fans are unrivaled.

There are countless examples of the power of the One Direction fandom since they band’s inception, including bringing the five lads of Britain to super stardom level. Also, the fans were the ones to actually release the single No Control on the radio, by tweeting, requesting and bringing a full on campaign to have their fav song from the bands FOUR album to the airwaves.

But the latest of these efforts is yet another Twitter trend, and this one hits a little close to ‘Home’.

#ProjectHome is the newest trend to overtake Twitter, similar to that which brought No Control to the forefront. According to the official website, Project Home is an effort to get the song on the radio April 29. Fans are encouraged to request the song on the radio, spread the word, keep the project trending and more. The project runs from April 23 to May 28.

The project will run a different theme or hashtag each week during the effort, as well as showcase fan art and other promotions.

‘Home’ has taken different meaning to many fans. Some equate it to keeping a sense of home during the bands hiatus, which began at the end of 2015, with others finding their own meaning with regards to loved ones, spouses and the like. What’s more, is the connection many within the LGBTQA community who share a love for 1D.

‘Home’, an additional song on the ‘Perfect’ single EP, released October 2015. Written by band members Louis Tomlinson and Liam Payne, the song has personal meaning for them, as well as the fans.

The amount of organization and effort undertaken in this project is outstanding. If anything, promotions teams should take note of the tactics of the fandom, and maybe take a lesson or two!

The #ProjectHome has almost one million tweets, leaving little doubt that the efforts will be successful!

Well done, fandom….well done!
