It is San Diego Comic-Con week and we could not be more excited! Unfortunately for myself I shall be sitting at home at the bottom of the world (New Zealand,) but for any of you lucky enough to go– I am super jel, and also super excited for you! Ok, so before I begin with questions that we want answered at the SDCC Outlander panel let’s get one thing out of the way: BEWARE, THERE WILL BE *SPOILERS* IN THIS POST.
Next let’s get down to basics:
When: Saturday July 11, 4.30pm
Where: Ballroom 20
Featuring: Sam Heughan, Caitriona Balfe, Ronald D Moore, Diana Gabaldon, Maril Davis.
Alright, now that’s cleared up, let’s get going. The end of Season 1 left us feeling very shaken to say the least, but we were also given a wonderful surprise when it was revealed that Claire was pregnant! But as Claire and Jamie sail off to France, we were left with a few burning questions that we want answered at this year’s SDCC. There are the obvious hopes of a quick Season 2 teaser of course (we have our fingers crossed,) but here’s a list we’ve compiled of questions we need answered:
1. Who is cast as Roger Wakefield and Brianna Randall?
If you’re not a book reader you may want to tread with caution here if you’re not a huge *spoiler* person, don’t read this question any further than to know that these two, although not having much appearance in this particular season, are pretty major.
In the second book, Dragonfly in Amber, the story opens with Claire and her daughter Brianna visiting (back in Claire’s original timeline) to Scotland 20 years in the future. She also comes across the adult Roger Wakefield who plays a major role in helping Claire and Brianna go sight-seeing and is there when Claire recounts her time when her and Jamie go to France. So yes, these two characters are major, and we NEED the actors to be revealed– pretty, please!
2. How much French will there be? And will there be subtitles?
We kind of cheated with this one, because it’s two questions, but who’s counting, right? In Season 1 there was a lot of Gaelic spoken, none of it subtitled, which meant us as an audience had no idea what was going on (unless you understand Gaelic obviously) and felt pretty isolated, right? This played into the idea that we were feeling how Claire must’ve also been feeling, as she also had no idea what the hell they were talking about either.
With Season 2 it’s a different story though. Both Claire and Jamie are fluent in French, so will we as an audience get subtitles when French is being spoken, and will there be as much French as there was Gaelic during the beginning of Season 1? I don’t know about you, but if watching Outlander gives me the excuse to brush up sur mes française (on my French,) then I am all for it! Also, Jamie speaking French? *cue heart melting into a puddle of goo*
3. Who will be cast as Lord John Grey?
Another major character in the series (major enough to have his own spin-off series written about him,) is Lord John Grey. In the second book John is merely a sixteen-year-old who, but over the series makes subsequent appearances. We have our fingers crossed that the actor playing him will be revealed along with Roger and Brianna at SDCC!
4. How will Claire’s pregnancy affect Jamie and Claire’s relationship?
There is no doubt that Jamie has always loved the idea of being a father, but was heartbreakingly understanding and accepting when Claire told him she may never be able to give him the children he desires. So there is no question that Jamie will be ecstatic with the news he is going to be a father, but at the same time the pregnancy provides another aspect to the couples relationship, so how will that affect the two? We all know Claire is just as stubborn as Jamie, so will Claire get frustrated by a potentially over-protective Jamie? Or will she really settle into the idea of being a mother and a mothering role? Answers please!
5: When can we expect to see Season 2 on our screens?
The wait between Outlander Season 1A and 1B was painfully long, so the last thing we want is another super long wait. However, as they say, good things come to those who wait, so can we please have an exact date that we can circle on our calendar, mark the days counting down and set a countdown on our phone and then plan a feast in front of the TV with everyone who is anyone…? Are we the only ones who do this?
So there you have it! Our five questions we want answered at this year’s Outlander SDCC panel! Because this is a series that has an expansive background as it started as a book series, a lot of Outlander fans are on different pages (huh– unintentional pun,) about what will happen. Some know pretty much everything (besides the changes the show-runners will make) while others know only what they’ve seen on the show, and both are absolutely fine!
So in saying that, no matter where you sit in the fandom, what are your burning questions that NEED to be answered? Let us know below!
