One of the many amazing things about the One Chicago franchise is its dedication to exploring different family dynamics throughout all of its shows. And it won’t be long until we meet another member of the Halstead family in this universe.
Chicago Med has cast Louis Herthum as Will and Jay Halstead’s father, according to TVLine.
The Chicago Med episode in which Herthum appears (“Generation Gap” airing April 13) will be a big episode for the Halstead brothers.
Here’s the scoop from Chicago P.D. star Jesse Lee Soffer (via TVLine):
“We get to see the family dynamic and all the family drama as it plays out,” P.D. star Jesse Lee Soffer tells TVLine, adding that pops “might be going through something medical.”
“Two seasons ago, we mentioned that Jay and his father hadn’t spoken in two years,” Soffer continues. “There’s a lot of animosity. Their mother died of cancer. Their dad was hard on them. It’s definitely an interesting dynamic, and we’ve been having some fun scenes to play.”
Given the teases that we’ve gotten about Papa Halstead on Chicago P.D. — that he hasn’t really had a relationship with Jay for two years and that there’s obviously some animosity there — as well as the tease that Papa Halstead might be facing a medical challenge, this is easily one of my most anticipated episodes in awhile.
I’m all about the Halstead brothers. Especially when we get to see them interact — and especially in emotional situations.
Also, just a heads up, One Chicago writers: we’d like to see more of the Halstead brothers/father dynamic on Chicago P.D. and Med in the future. We already know we’re going to love it!
Chicago P.D. airs Wednesdays at 10/9c and Chicago Med airs Thursdays at 9/8c on NBC.
The Halstead-centric “Generation Gap” will air Thursday, April 13 at 9/8c on NBC.
