Move over, Bughead and Varchie – there’s a new power couple taking the Riverdale fandom by storm. Though Season 2 was undeniably rough for Cheryl Blossom (Madelaine Petsch), it was also a time of major growth. Cheryl finally embraced her identity and sexuality, and even found love with South Side Serpent Toni Topaz (Vanessa Morgan). We had the chance to chat with the real-life besties at San Diego Comic-Con, where they shared that there is plenty more Choni to come when the hit CW show returns this fall.

After a rough road to becoming a couple, it sounds as though it will be smooth sailing for Choni when Riverdale picks back up. (At least, as smooth as the sailing can be in that town.) “I believe at least for the foreseeable future that Toni and Cheryl will be moral support systems to each other, and that other problems will be external problems in their lives but not affecting their relationship,” Madelaine said. “Of course there will be rocks – that’s normal – but I think for the most part, it’s gonna be Choni foreva.”

Petsch and Morgan also teased that fans should be able to look forward to several deleted scenes featuring the two characters when Season 2 hits DVD later this month.

As much as we love Choni, that’s of course far from the only interesting thing about these two fierce ladies. While they couldn’t share too much about the upcoming season, Vanessa and Madelaine did tease what we can expect to see from their characters (or what they’d hope to see) coming up.

“I would like to see more depth with my character,” Morgan said. “I would like to see a family side. I don’t even know my character’s backstory. I’ve made up my own theory, but I would really love to see it written down on paper and get to play that out.”

As for Cheryl, Petsch teased that we’ll be seeing a “chaos-starter” Cheryl with more of a Season 1 attitude. “My character is in this really interesting place where you’ve never really seen her in her element,” she said. “She’s kind of high on power right now. She’s got a girlfriend, which she’s never been able to do before; she’s now a part of a group [the Serpents], which she’s never been able to do before […] Now she’s kind of thirsty for power and going after things that maybe aren’t hers and she doesn’t have any right to go after, which will be very interesting for her.”

That’s sure to cause some drama, which means we’re going to need a drink. In honor of Veronica’s soon-to-open speakeasy below Pop’s, we asked what each of these gals’ signature cocktail would be. Madelaine replied that Cheryl would be “something like a Cherry Bomb, whatever that entails. Probably like fifteen maraschino cherries, and maybe some vodka.”

“I picture Toni being maybe like a tequila or a whiskey,” Vanessa said – to which Madelaine added, “I feel like Toni parties hard.”
