Why We Love ‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’

There’s so much to love about latest addition to the Star Wars universe, Rogue One. Thanks to Disney Home Entertainment, we had the chance to take part in a Twitter viewing party for the must-see film over the weekend. We had the best time reliving all the action while channeling our inner K-2SO to make sassy remarks as part of Team Empire.

For those of you who have yet to see the film (or just need a refresher), Rogue One follows a group of unlikely heroes who band together on a mission to steal the plans to the Death Star. The film takes place before the events of Episode IV: A New Hope and explains just how that pesky flaw in the Death Star got there. The cast is made up of brilliant actors including Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, Mads Mikkelsen, Alan Tudyk, Riz Ahmed, Jiang Wen, and Forest Whitaker.

The movie is an impressive installment in Star Wars canon, and it’s one we’ll be watching again and again. Here are just a few of the things we love about Rogue One:

The story. This film does something completely new for the Star Wars movies, filling in gaps in our knowledge rather than adding to the “Skywalker saga.” The story is both new and familiar, answering lingering questions and opening our eyes to the bravery and impact of ordinary people in times of war. The timing also allows for cameos from fan favorites (Darth Vader, for one!), which is always a plus.

The characters. We may have been tweeting for Team Empire, but we have mad respect for the core group of rebels in this movie. Headed up by reluctant leader Jyn Erso (Jones), this band of heroes is dynamic, charismatic, and so powerful. They will make you laugh, cry, and generally feel all the feels. We love the girl power Jyn brings to the table, but if we had to pick a favorite, sassy droid K-2SO (Tudyk) would have to be at the top of our list.

The stunning locations. Any chance the stormtroopers can relocate so we can take an extended tropical vacation on Scarif? The Imperial-controlled planet – a.k.a. the Maldives in real life – is absolutely gorgeous… and that’s only one of the amazing locations in this movie. Sign us up for the next spaceship.

The music. With music from the incomparable Michael Giacchino – who has worked on everything from Star Trek (2009) to The Incredibles – you know this score was bound to be good. The music of Rogue One is so captivating, atmospheric, and truly epic.

The bonus features. We had the chance to watch the movie on Digital HD through Disney Movies Anywhere and our Roku Stick. Not only was this a super easy setup to use, but it meant that the bonus features played right after the credits. With exclusive cast interviews, Easter eggs, and more, this is something you definitely won’t want to miss when you bring the movie home.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is available now on Digital HD and Disney Movies Anywhere.
