Russell Tovey is coming to the CW as The Ray!
The Quantico vet has been tapped to play gay superhero The Ray in the four-part Arrowverse crossover, TVLine reported. He will also voice the role in CW Seed’s forthcoming animated series Freedom Fighters: The Ray.
Official character description reads as follows:
Raymond “Ray” Terrill was a reporter who discovered a group of government scientists working on a secret project to turn light into a weapon of mass destruction. But before he could report on his findings, the project head exposed Ray to a “genetic light bomb.” The bomb failed to kill him and instead gifted Ray with light-based powers. With these abilities, Ray realized he could go beyond reporting on injustice — he could take action to help stop it. Calling himself The Ray, he was recruited by Uncle Sam and the Freedom Fighters to fight violence and oppression wherever it exists.
There had been hints that The Ray was going to show up this year in one of the four Arrowverse shows, much like Vixen did last year, and we’re glad he’s getting introduced to audiences in the crossover because, hey, more people. However, we’d like to see more of him than just a guest appearence.
Is there a spot for him in the Arrowverse? Only time will tell.
The Arrowverse’s four-part crossover will air this year across two nights, Monday November 27th and Tuesday November 28th, with Supergirl, The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow in their regular time periods, and Arrow airing on a special night: Monday at 9/8c, following Supergirl.
