After months of mystery, we’re beginning to learn more about what we can expect from The Scorch Trials, the highly anticipated second film in the Maze Runner series. Since the premiere of the first trailer earlier this week, interviews with the cast and the other talented people involved in the series have begun to emerge, revealing insider information and secrets from the set. We did a round-up of Maze Runner news yesterday, but with so much exciting information coming out, we’re back for Round 2!
Oh, and speaking of that trailer? According to The Wrap, it garnered 12 million views in its first 24 hours online–a twelvefold increase over views for The Maze Runner‘s trailer in 2013. Yeah, that’s 12 MILLION–which, in case you were wondering, is a HUGE deal. We’re so glad the world is recognizing the brilliance of this series and gearing up for Phase 2!
MTV revealed an exclusive set video with Dylan O’Brien, Thomas Brodie-Sangster, director Wes Ball, and more earlier this week. Now they are adding to our Scorch Trials knowledge with 9 secrets from the set, straight from Dylan and several of the other stars!
Book readers will have already spotted several significant changes from book to screen in the trailer. One of these is in setting–much of the Scorch Trials novel takes place in an underground system of tunnels. According to MTV, “the production team made it clear that the movie would not be a shot-for-shot adaptation of the book, but it would still use a whole bunch of beat up indoor locations to create a similar feel to those tunnels.” This change has created the opportunity to incorporate some really cool sets, though, such as the abandoned mall seen in the trailer.
Of course, the major setting for the film is the Scorch itself–the massive, post-apocalyptic desert that poses a major threat to the Gladers’ survival. Albuquerque, New Mexico–the former home of Breaking Bad–stands in for the Scorch, though “the Scorch Trials gang had to “junk up and scorch out” their filming locations in the city, to make them look post-apocalyptic.” We’re so excited to see the Scorch in all its dystopian glory on the big screen this September.
