To See Or Not See A Movie In 4DX? The Answer For Us Is No.

I love to go and see movies. So the invitation to see Wonder Woman – a movie that I can’t get enough of, for free…

You didn’t have to ask me twice.

I didn’t really know much about 4DX before agreeing to see it, in exchange for an honest review. In a world where everyone is always trying to up one another for the theater going experience, 4DX seems like the latest and greatest. But if you have ever been to a theme park and been on rides such as Back to the Future, Harry Potter’s Forbidden Journey – you have watched a short film in 4DX.

An entire movie of it is just too long.

If you are not familiar with 4DX, here’s what it is, “motion picture technology owned and developed by South Korean company CJ 4DPLEX, a part of the CJ Group. 4DX allows a motion picture presentation to be augmented with environmental effects such as seat motion, wind, rain, fog, lights, and scents along with the standard video and audio.”

If you are familiar with Wonder Woman, you know that this movie is full of action, wind, lights, fog… it’s just got a little bit of everything. But from the beginning of Wonder Woman in 4DX, I wondered what I had agreed to.

The first thing that you should know is that if you want to see a movie in 4DX, then you should expect your wallet to take a hit. A $30 ticket price about made me choke – but then again – I wasn’t paying for it. So I choked down the price and walked into the theater.

The previews seem way too long and make me wonder when it will end. The smell of the mist spraying in my face was strong and made me want to get out of the theater.

First thing that you need to know about seeing a movie in 4DX, you need to plan any eating and drinking strategically. For instance – Amazons need to go on a lot of horse back rides. The chairs begin to move to imitate the feeling of riding a horse.

Memo to myself – I will do a hard pass on horseback riding.

I felt ill.

Let’s not even talk about when they were on water.

I get the allure of 4DX. The feeling like you are inside the movie and actually experiencing the things that they are. But it felt like too much. Too long. It felt as though the motions that they actually choose to interact/enforce should have been more thought out.

Because I have to tell you – I was offended at the fog that came out when someone was being gassed. Like lets think here. That was just out of place, rude, and felt insensitive.

The puffs of air in your face, the spraying of water, the feeling like you are being punched in your back feels like too much.

The constant motion, the bad smells, the mist that made me feel like I needed to take a shower – 4DX was not for me.

I’ll stick to just experiencing the sensation when on a ride.

I work a lot. Fangirlish is my baby. I work in social media professionally and I love it - which is probably why I don't keep up on my own. I don't sleep enough and I obsess too much over my favorite things. I need to work on combing my hair more. Or at elast I need to stop dying it different colors.
