Selena Gomez’s AMAs Acceptance Speech Moved Us To Tears and Inspired Us

Sometimes, a celebrity moves you to your core, not meaning to necessarily – they just speak honestly and want you to know their truth.

It’s been a little bit since Selena Gomez cancelled her tour to take care of herself. She checked herself into rehab for anxiety and depression. She wanted to take care of herself and quite honestly at that moment there was not much more we thought that she could do.

But last night, she said words that had us cheering for her and at the same point crying.

“In 2014, this stage was actually the first time I was authentically 100 percent honest with all of you.” she continued, “I think it’s safe to say most of you know a lot of my life whether I liked it or not. I had to stop because I had everything and I was absolutely broken inside and I kept it all together enough to where I would never let you down, but I kept it too much together to where I let myself down.”

At that moment we started to cry. No one should ever let themselves down for the sake of anyone else. Self care is the most important thing for your mental health being.

“I’m so grateful to be able to share what I love with people that I love. You guys are so damn loyal, but if you are broken you do not have to stay broken. Whether you respect me or not, one thing you should know about is I care about people.” she said.

I have always been a fan off Gomez’s, but as a person that lives with anxiety and depression, I have never had more respect for her. We can all look at each other and think that every one else’s world is more fabulous and that everything is put together. But you really never know anyone else’s story.

You never know what another person is going through.

There were a lot of celebrities that reacted to Selena’s speech, but I looked at what the fans had to say.

Living with a mental illness, anxiety, or depression is nothing to ever be ashamed of. It is hard, I know – I have anxiety and depression. But we can all support each other and let people who are living with these ailments that they are not alone.

And if you are broken – if you have anxiety and depression – take the steps to take care of yourself. There is no shame.

There is only strength in taking care of your own mental health. You are worth it.

Head Bitch In Charge

I work a lot. Fangirlish is my baby. I work in social media professionally and I love it - which is probably why I don't keep up on my own. I don't sleep enough and I obsess too much over my favorite things. I need to work on combing my hair more. Or at elast I need to stop dying it different colors.
