A Series of Unfortunate Events Season 2 is Already in the Works

While A Series of Unfortunate Events just debuted on Friday over on Netflix in all of its binge-worthy glory, fans can soon expect more gloom, misery, and unfortunate events withe the Baudelaire orphans.

In an interview with EW.com, Lemony Snicket confirmed that a second season of Unfortunate Events is already in the works.

“I am deep in season 2,” he said. “I’ve been working in my own dining room with a team of writers I’m really loving on the next season, and we hope to get the go-ahead to do season 3, which… given how quickly young actors age and change, we’re trying to film everything as quickly as possible.”

Given the first season of A Series of Unfortunate Events covered the first four books (The Bad Beginning, The Reptile Room, The Wide Window, and The Miserable Mill), we had assumed that season 2 would cover at least the next four. But is sounds like it’ll be the next five books. Snicket has revealed that the plan is for the series to last three seasons.

“The second season is laid out to be 10 episodes for the next five books, so it ends on The Carnivorous Carnival, and the third season would be the rest of it,” he said.

So this is how it’ll ultimately be laid out:

Season 1: The Bad Beginning, The Reptile Room, The Wide Window, The Miserable Mill

Season 2: The Austere Academy, The Ersatz Elevator, The Vile Village, The Hostile Hospital, The Carnivorous Carnival

Season 3: The Slippery Slope, The Grim Grotto, The Penultimate Peril, The End

With Snicket teasing that the season 2 will continue to be laid out as two episodes per book, we can’t help but wonder if perhaps the third season might see some cover three episodes given how much more thick the later books are than the earlier ones.

While Netflix hasn’t officially greenlit A Series of Unfortunate Events for a season 2, given the praise by critics and fans alike, there’s no reason why this show shouldn’t get a second season and subsequently a third season.
