There’s only one person who could get us to watch WWE wrestling twice, and that person is Stephen Amell.
The long-fought feud (that began in May) between Stephen Amell and Stardust came to a head at SummerSlam in Brooklyn on Sunday night where Stephen teamed up with Neville (aka Red Arrow) to shut Stardust up (and his partner King Barrett) once and for all.
Stephen made his entrance sporting the top part of his new Green Arrow costume that has yet to be seen in live action (as season four of Arrow premieres in October). And damn, we are still mesmerized! It was even better when he unzipped it. After all, shirtless Stephen Amell is the best Stephen Amell.
The match itself was equal bits terrifying as it was exciting as we saw Stephen deliver some serious punches, as well as get beat on. Whether it was screams of, “Not the face!” or “Not the abs!” that was actually pretty stressful to watch as a Stephen Amell and Arrow fan.
We’re pretty sure that the Arrow producers were holding their collective breaths and praying during the entire thing (as were we, to be honest).
Here’s some clips from the match!
The greatest thing next to shirtless Stephen gracing our presence once more was that this match was a dream come true for Stephen. And you could see it. He was literally bouncing up and down with joy. It was the cutest thing I’ve ever seen — to watch a grown man fanboy so hard. Stephen was transported back in time to the days where he was merely a fan of the sport, and now he got to not only partake in it but kick some serious ass!
We’d like to thank God and also Canada for Stephen Amell.
But then there was also this moment, as seen above in the clip, that brought the house down.
You have to give it up to Stephen, he went in and he went in hard. And he’s got the bruises to prove it. One of the things I love most about Stephen is his commitment to his roles. Whether it’s as Oliver Queen on Arrow or his role of “Stephen Amell on WWE,” he gives it everything he’s got.
But also, he’s so physically capable of doing it. Whereas with some other celebrities where it might’ve looked completely ridiculous and laughable, watching Stephen kick ass in the ring was impressive and believable.
There have been two occasions that I can recall watching WWE in recent memory, disregarding the times I watched it with my father when I was younger. Both of those occasions in which I watched by my choosing have been because of Stephen Amell. I’d say I regret it, but I don’t.
Green Arrow teamed up with Red Arrow on Sunday night at SummerSlam to take down Stardust and King Barrett, and the heroes won. Like they always do. Stardust, you have failed this city.
And now Stephen can return to Vancouver to continue filming season four of Arrow and ensuring his physical well-being and our mental stability — at least until Arrow returns, and we’ll all be emotionally compromised once more.
UPDATE: WWE posted an interview with Stephen post-match where he was asked about whether or not the rivalry between him and Stardust was over. His answer? “I don’t know if it’s over.”
Sounds like there might be more WWE-watching in our future if this tease from Stephen proves true. And we’re more than okay with that.
