As Kara Danvers gets ready to face off against the villainous Rhea of Daxam, our Girl of Steel is preparing for her biggest fight yet in what’s set to be one of the most emotional hours to date on Supergirl.
All season, Kara has fought to balance all of the different aspects of her life: friends, family, love, and being a hero. But ever since Rhea showed up, she’s threatened to take all of that away.
In a new interview with Comicbook.com, Supergirl star Melissa Benoist teased an “emotional” season finale that has her already apologizing to fans for the emotional turmoil it’s sure to bring in its wake.
“I think it’s a huge finale, and there’s a lot going on, and I think people will go on an emotional roller coaster with Kara, so I’m sorry to all the fans in advance.”
And judging from the situation and the photos we’ve seen, we can’t help but believe that Mon-El is a part of that emotional roller coaster for Kara and fans. The super couple have nearly lost each other several times this season, so why should the finale be any different? Well, given that Rhea is leading the charge — and that her son is romantically involved with the Girl of Steel — that’s surely going to be a catalyst.
This season, Supergirl has by far been my favorite of the DC Comics shows because of it’s effortless execution when it comes to blending action, romance, real world issues, and beautiful character moments that truly shine on screen. This world has truly opened itself into something even greater than its first season.
“Every time I get a script, I’m like, ‘There’s no way we’re going to top what we just did.’ And then I read the new script and I’m like, ‘how are we going to do this?’ And somehow we do,” Benoist said. “So I think we’ll only just keep getting bigger and bigger. The scope of this world is so massive that we can’t go back.”
Supergirl‘s season finale airs this Monday at 8/7c on The CW.
