Last year, Marvel Studios announced that Brie Larson (Room, Kong: Skull Island) would lead its first standalone female superhero film, Captain Marvel. Since then, Marvel has assured fans that it was going to take its time to find a female director who would fit the part. The search had included big names such as Jennifer Kent and Niki Caro, but nothing was set in stone. Today, it has been announced that Captain Marvel has found its new directors: Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck.
Boden and Fleck are relatively unknown directors but have noteworthy experience in directing television such as The Affair and Billions. They have also helmed critically acclaimed films such as It’s Kind of a Funny Story and Mississippi Grind.
Captain Marvel will revolve around Carol Danvers, a skilled pilot who gets her DNA merged with alien DNA after an accident. Suddenly, she develops interesting powers such as super strength, flying and the ability to shoot concussive energy bursts from her hands.
Captain Marvel is set to be released in March 2019.
