If there’s one actor who is truly living out our dreams, it’s Tobias Menzies. I mean, how many of our favorite shows can one person star in? From Game of Thrones to Outlander, he has proven to be a master of characters you’re not sure whether to love or hate. (Okay, Black Jack Randall was purely in the “hate” category.) Now, Menzies is headed to another show we’re obsessed with: The Crown.

Menzies will take on the role of Prince Philip in Season 3 of the hit Netflix series, as reported by Deadline. He has signed on for the next two seasons, and begins shooting this summer in the UK.

Prince Philip was previously played by Matt Smith, who starred in the first two seasons alongside Claire Foy as Queen Elizabeth. Show creator Peter Morgan planned for the cast to change as the seasons progress in order to show the characters as they aged. Menzies will star opposite Olivia Colman as Elizabeth, and Helena Bonham Carter as Princess Margaret (replacing Vanessa Kirby).

The Crown already had our full allegiance, but with every casting announcement, we grow even more excited for the upcoming third season. We’ve seen such a broad range of conflicted, complicated characters from Tobias – not to mention regal ones with Rome and King Lear – and we can’t wait to see what he brings to the role of Philip. While we’re sad to see Matt Smith go, this is certainly an evolution we can get behind.

Want more Tobias Menzies while you wait for Season 3 to hit Netflix? Catch him in AMC’s The Terror, which is currently airing.
