The CW is Developing a ‘Gritty’ Adaptation of ‘Little Women’

Color us shocked, terrified and slightly offended at the latest news surrounding The CW’s newest series in development.

According to Deadline, The CW is developing a “gritty” adaptation of Little Women from CBS TV Studios, writer Alexis Jolly, and NCIS co-star Michael Weatherly.

Little Women is described as a “hyper-stylized, gritty adaptation” of Louisa May Alcott’s novel in which “disparate half-sisters Jo, Meg, Beth, and Amy band together in order to survive the dystopic streets of Philadelphia and unravel a conspiracy that stretches far beyond anything they have ever imagined – all while trying not to kill each other in the process. ”

We’re not sure how to feel about this dark take on Alcott’s classic except unsure and mildly offended.

But this doesn’t mean the show will come to fruition. Last fall, ABC put into production a small screen adaptation of Little Women as a potential limited series, which has yet to gain steam. Then there’s pilot season. Nothing’s ever set in stone. This is, after all, only being put into development. Permission to stand down.
