The Fosters’ “Trust” episode on Monday was very interesting and spoke on how much the Adams-Foster family needs that to build back up. With Nick in jail, you’d expect things to go back to normal, but not with this family. Not with Brandon living with his girlfriend, Callie stressing about the mamas reversing her adoption, Jude going to church, and Mariana getting bullied in school. Lena and Stef have their hands full, even after Nick left the house!
Brandon and Cortney: How is it possible that an 18-year-old can take care of a child that’s not his? Brandon pretty much proves that he can’t, by throwing Cheerios with baby Mason for Cortney to clean up. But luckily, he volunteers to watch Mason when Eddie, Mason’s father, bails. Things go from bad to worse when he finds out that Stef took his car away (it was a family car, after all). So Brandon is forced to use Cortney to drop him off at school. Callie tries to persuade him to come back home, but how can they when the mamas know everything?
Lena later apologizes for Stef’s hastiness and reminds Brandon that he can always use the family’s piano to practice. While Brandon plays (beautifully, I might add), Stef steps in with a knowing smile. And just when you think there’s a reconnection, Cortney texts back to come back home. Sighs, but such is this. If Brandon wants to come home, he’ll have to learn the hard way, Stef.
When B gets to Cortney’s house, Eddie comes by demanding to see Mason, but Brandon threatens to call the police. But this fight isn’t over. If I were Brandon and Cortney, I would file a restraining order against him. I’m surprised they haven’t before.
Callie: Nightmares of the mamas reversing her adoption keep our girl up at night. They don’t trust each other now, and it’s hard for them to know where they stand with her. Stef reminds Callie to mind anyone who talks back to her. But that goes all out the window when some idiot makes a crude joke at school, Callie punches him out! (I would have punched him out too, and so would have Stef). But Lena suspends Callie anyway, making her think about what she’s done.
But being home alone leaves her to wander off to a coffee shop, where she meets a cute law student named Aaron. She calls herself Camren, a photography major at NYU, and rides on the back of his motorcycle. Classy, Callie. But it’s understandable; she needs to become a different person right now, with someone who knows nothing about her family drama.
They drive by the beach and make out while Callie takes cute, candid photos of Aaron. Then they take a trip to Callie and Jude’s former foster home. And that’s when it all comes back to her; you can only run away from your problems for so long.
Aaron takes her home, but right in front of Lena! The mama’s are pissed, naturally, but it only makes Callie finally explode in tears about her fears. It’s driving her up the wall wondering if they will reverse her adoption. But it turns out, they didn’t even know that she was worried about that. They assure her that even though they still have a lot to talk about, Callie isn’t going anywhere.
Lena and Mariana: Lena and Mariana are having a tough time dealing with the changes at school since the shooting. The campus is surrounded by security guards, wired fences, metal detectors but it still doesn’t make Lena feel safe. She wants to pull from the arts department’s budget to make them permanent for school. But Lena then realizes that their school should be safe, but it doesn’t have to be a prison. School shootings aren’t normal, and they shouldn’t be treated like they are.
Mariana is also feeling the pressure, especially when she’s being bullied for Nick bringing a gun to school. But Jesus stood up for her sister against shady Renee and her groupies. Also, during an assembly, Mariana brought up a good point. We’re spending so much time focusing on keeping the school safe from the outside. But what’s keeping it safe on the inside too? Who’s protecting them from being bullied for protecting her family?
With that being said, Mat and Mariana are officially back together! But Nick calls, asking when she will come see him. Hopefully never, but with Mari you never know.
Minor Family Details:
- Taylor pulls Jude into one of her church’s seminars, where he meets Noah, the pastor’s son. Noah mentions that he recently got dumped by his boyfriend and is really struggling with it. When they do a trust exercise, Jude freaks out and leaves, He’s feeling some type of way that Taylor brought him here, knowing that he has a strained relationship with God. Taylor admits that she saw Jude texting Connor during the shooting, and thought it’d be nice for him to have another good friend around. Jude is still angry, but after talking with Stef, goes back to the church to help Noah with the rummage sale. To be honest, I’m still not over Connor, so I’m not exactly shipping Jude and Noah just yet.
- Callie decides on her senior project: a photo essay of all of the houses she and Jude spent time in, and finally getting in the Adams Foster home.
- Jesus and Emma have bumped up their “not friends” status to “exclusive friends with benefits”, whatever that is. Must be exclusive if you’re screening for STD.
- Mariana said “Adams Fost-whore” when one of Renee’s cronies called her “Fost-whore”. Such a unicorn!! Love her!!

Stressed out by the hardships of supporting himself and Cortney, Brandon throws a house party and things take a turn for the worse.
