This Week in #TeenWolf: S5 Production Update, #DylanForSpiderman, Convention Round-Up, & More

What a week in the Teen Wolf fandom, guys. Season 5 production is officially underway, and with it, we’ve got tons of photos, special announcements, and more. There are also some exciting updates from several upcoming Teen Wolf conventions–and we’re getting in on the action by giving you the chance to win tickets to one of them. With other assorted announcements and excitement to cover, we’ll get right down to it. Here’s the Teen Wolf news you may have missed this week:

Season 5 is Filming – This is Not a Drill

Let’s start with this week’s biggest news… Season 5 filming is officially underway! Production is kicking off with a bang, too–many of the cast and producers have been sharing behind-the-scenes photos at a rate we can only hope will continue throughout filming. You can see a bunch of these (including the very first shot shared from the halls of Beacon Hills High) in our original announcement post. Here are a few more of our favorites that have been shared this week:

So we have photos placing all of the major cast members on set, except for Holland Roden. However, before you start to worry, check out this tweet from Linden Ashby:

We couldn’t be more excited about the flood of tweets, photos, and videos that has accompanied this first week of filming. And can we just say, HOLY BEACH SCENES, BATMAN?! Fingers crossed so hard for a senior beach day, senior bonfire, or something to that effect.

As if that weren’t enough, MTV also announced the first new cast member headed to Beacon Hills this season: Pretty Little Liars‘ Cody Christian.

codyCody will be playing Theo, a lone wolf drawn to Beacon Hills in search of a pack–but who may have mysterious ties to the spooky California town. Learn more about the announcement and our preliminary theories about this new character here.

PaleyFest Panel Line-Up Revealed

This week also brought the official reveal of the line-up for Teen Wolf‘s first PaleyFest panel. Tyler Posey (Scott), Dylan O’Brien (Stiles), Holland Roden (Lydia), Dylan Sprayberry (Liam), Shelley Hennig (Malia), and Arden Cho (Kira) will be talking all things Teen Wolf in Hollywood at the panel, taking place on March 11. If you’re in the area, make sure to snag your tickets today. If not, Yahoo is set to stream the panel for viewers around the country–and we’ll be recapping all the action as well.

Could Dylan O’Brien Be the Next Spider-Man?

Since this week’s announcement that Spider-Man will finally be joining the MCU (thanks for playing nice, Sony and Marvel!), the internet has been rife with speculation as to who the next star to take up the web-slinging mantle will be. One of the top contenders? Teen Wolf‘s own Dylan O’Brien. Variety reported that though actors have yet to be approached, O’Brien and Logan Lerman are among the studio’s top choices for the role. The new Spidey would likely be introduced in 2016’s Captain America: Civil War before launching his own solo franchise with Sony in 2017. If that is indeed the case, we shouldn’t have to wait too long for a casting announcement, as Civil War is scheduled to start filming in April.

Dylan has previously stated that Spider-Man is one of his dream roles–and we think he couldn’t be more perfect for the part. More on that next week! In the meantime, you can show your support for this casting rumor with #DylanForSpiderman.

Teen Wolf Actress May Join Cast of Deadpool

In other exciting (and slightly more concrete) potential casting news, Crystal Reed (our dearly departed Allison Argent) is reportedly among the top contenders for the female lead in Deadpool, opposite Ryan Reynolds. Deadline shared that Reed is among a small group of actresses–including Orange Is The New Black‘s Taylor Schilling, Homeland‘s Morena Baccarin, The Red Band Society‘s Rebecca Rittenhouse, Vikings‘ Sarah Greene, and Arrow‘s Jessica De Gouw–who have made test deals with Fox for the role. We would be thrilled to see Crystal in this role, and we’ll keep you posted as we learn more about it and any casting news.

Convention Round-Up

With several Teen Wolf conventions on the horizon, more news is coming in regarding guests and programming. First up, an LA-area convention we’re super excited about: Days of the Wolf – Burbank. Currently announced guests include Tyler Posey (Scott McCall), Ian Bohen (Peter Hale), Dylan Sprayberry (Liam Dunbar), Arden Cho (Kira Yukimura), Linden Ashby (Sheriff Stilinski), and Orny Adams (Coach). Orny will also be serving as Host/MC for the whole weekend. We attended last year and had a fabulous time–and we’ll be covering the event this year as well, so make sure to tweet us and say hi if you’re attending!

We are also giving away FIVE pairs of GA Weekend Passes so you and a friend can attend the convention–enter for your chance to win here

The other big LA-area convention, of course, is BiteCon. Yes, there are two LA Teen Wolf conventions, and yes, we’ll be going to both of them–what can we say, we’re obsessed. Anyway, BiteCon finally announced their first two guests:

As if those guests weren’t exciting enough, based on these hints, it seems as though Crystal Reed may also be putting in an appearance (excuse us while we fangirl).

Also, can we just say how proud (/in awe) we are of HowlerCon? The fan-run New Jersey convention’s Indiegogo is still going strong and has currently raised $61,400–over 600% of their goal. That’s undeniably a very impressive number (with 16 days left in the campaign, too!), and it speaks to how much fun people had last year.

We’ll definitely be keeping an eye on all of these cons as their 2015 dates approach.

Tyler Posey Talks Life & His Mom in Must-See Video

Tyler Posey has revitalized his YouTube channel with more “Music for Your Ears to Bleed To.” In one of his latest videos, Tyler shared what’s been going on in his personal life, including speaking out for the first time about his mother’s death. Posey’s mother, Cyndi, passed away in December 2014 after a long battle with breast cancer. Even as Tyler gets teary-eyed, the Teen Wolf star is nothing but positive for his fans. He says that he wants us to feel like we’re not alone–and to inspire people. He even says that Scott McCall has been very inspirational to him during this difficult time:  “Life is up and down. My character from ‘Teen Wolf’ actually said a quote that I live by, and I think everyone should: ‘Life isn’t always good, and life isn’t always bad.’ It’s that simple.” Watch the video above for more words of wisdom and life updates from Posey.

Pocket Full of Posey

Tyler Posey is back on Represent, this time with his very own campaign. In case you don’t know how it works, Represent allows people and organizations to create custom t-shirts (as well as hoodies, bags, and other merchandise) featuring a limited edition design. In most of the campaigns (especially those run by celebrities), a portion of the proceeds goes to charity. A portion of the proceeds from Posey’s oh-so-perfect “Pocket Full of Posey” t-shirts will benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. You can order one here through February 19.

That’s it for this week’s major Teen Wolf news! It was undeniably a major news week, and we’ll be keeping you posted as Season 5 production continues and we learn more about what’s coming in Beacon Hills. Have a great weekend!
