Marvel and Freeform have joined forces to bring viewers a different type of superhero series – this time with an interracial teen couple at the forefront with Cloak & Dagger.
Marvel has always pushed the boundaries with their television series, with the Netflix series focused on the gritty street level heroes and the ABC series focusing on the spy aspects of the genre. And now Marvel is tapping into it’s young adult fan base with Cloak & Dagger, which will be followed by Freeform‘s New Warriors and Hulu’s Runaways.
According to Marvel:
Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger is the story of Tandy Bowen (Olivia Holt) and Tyrone Johnson (Aubrey Joseph) – two teenagers from very different backgrounds, who find themselves burdened and awakened to newly acquired superpowers which are mysteriously linked to one another. Tandy can emit light daggers and Tyrone has the ability to engulf others in darkness. They quickly learn they are better together than apart, but their feelings for each other make their already complicated world even more challenging.
The series stars Aubrey Joseph, Olivia Holt, Andrea Roth, Gloria Reuben, Miles Mussenden, Carl Lundstedt, James Saito and J.D. Evermore. The showrunner is Joe Pokaski (Underground, Heroes) and Gina Prince-Bythewood (Love & Basketball) directed the first episode.
Freeform has ordered ten one-hour episodes and it is scheduled to debut in early 2018.
