Wattpad Block Party SEII Author Feature – @TawnyStokes

As promised, we will be featuring a series of interviews with the amazing authors taking part in this summers Wattpad Block Party – Summer Edition II. Each day in August, a new incredible Wattpad author will be featured with special works just for the event! The official listing of authors will be released soon, but many have already taken part in interviews exclusively for Fangirlish!

We will be starting with @TawnyStokes, a newcomer to the Block Party, but definitely a writing veteran, best selling author, and our newest obsession!

What is it about Wattpad that makes it such a wonderful forum for writers?

It’s the openness of it, the community.  Everyone is there to discover something new and wonderful, something that maybe isn’t out there already published in the book stores.  It’s just a fabulous place to be to express yourself, in the written word.

What is your genre? Why do you love it?

I write mostly in paranormal, both YA and adult.  But I do write contemporary stories as well.  I have always had a fascination with the paranormal/supernatural, I liked to be scared, I liked to be creeped out. I cut my reading teeth on Stephen King and Dean Koontz when I was 10.  If Goosebumps had been around when I was a kid, then I would’ve likely gobbled those books up as fast as they were written.

What are some of your personal accolades and milestones you have reached with your writing?

I have written and published over 45 books in the past 10 years.  I’ve been published with big NY publishers like Avon, Harlequin and Kensington.  I have reached bestseller status with USA Today and New York Times.  I’ve been on TV a couple of times talking about my books.  I’ve had a book optioned by a production company.  I’ve adapted a few of my books into scripts, and have them read at companies like the CW, ABC, MTV.  But I have so many more milestones to reach for…

Is this your first Wattpad Block Party? How does it feel to take part for the first time? If you’ve participated before, what has participating in past Block Parties been like?

This is my first Wattpad Block Party!! I’m pretty excited about it.  I’ve heard how amazing the other parties have been, with the participation of amazing Wattpad readers, I really wanted to be part of that. And to hang out with the other epically awesome authors is just icing on an already delicious cake.

Who are some of your favorite Wattpad authors and why?

The first Wattpad author I fell in love with (her work at first, then her as a person) was LD Crichton.  The fantastic thing was that I later found out is that she lives in my city.  So, I contacted her on twitter a couple of years ago, and we’ve been great friends ever since.  She just has a wonderful way with story.  It’s so whimsical and emotional.

I also adore Shaun Allan.  Sin is a crazy amazing warped and wonderful book.  He has an amazing talent to turn a phrase into something both lyrical and hysterical.

What writing aspirations do you still hold?

I want to write books that hold the same emotional depth as John Green’s.  I realize after 10 years of writing that these type of stories resonate with me the most. These are the types of stories I want to tell.  I also screenwrite.  So one of my goals is to be a go to writer for adaptations.  I have written several of my own original scripts, but I absolutely love adapting someone else’s work.  I also want to write and produce my own web series.  One day!!
