Wattpad Joins Forces with HarperCollins

What do you get when you join the biggest online writing forum on the internet that has a monthly user count of more than 55 million and more than 375 million story uploads with one of the big 5 publishers in the world?

Publishing and the journey of authors redefined.

Today, (July 27) Wattpad announced a new collaboration with HarperCollins Childrens Books, one of the biggest publishing houses in the world. The future of this venture is to use the endless availability of talent on Wattpad to search out the best and brightest in teen fiction. These stories will go from the web, to the shelf, with HarperCollins traditional publishing power.

“I’m excited to leverage Wattpad’s market insights and continue their success of bringing bestsellers to bookstore shelves. Wattpad—which is like a publishing-centric social network—helps us organically connect with new writers and readers, and I am confident this collaboration will lead to the publication of some incredible new talent.” – Sara Sargent, HarperCollins Childrens Books.

The current projection is to publish several titles from Wattpad to the imprint within the first year. Exact titles and numbers have yet to be determined.

Wattpad knows their strength within the literary community, and are eager to share their power with the traditional market.

“In the last 30 days, people have spent the equivalent of 1,700 years reading YA stories on Wattpad. We have insights no other company has and are eager to help HarperCollins discover some of the best YA storytellers and the most viral content on the internet.” – Ashleigh Gardner, Head of Partnerships, Wattpad Studios

Wattpad has already made connections with major publishers, including their audio book venture with Hachette. Wattpad has already launched the careers of New York Times bestseller Anna Todd (After), Ali Novak (Paper Hearts), AV Geiger (Follow Me Back) and more. This next step in partnerships will pave the way for more incredible Wattpad authors to achieve their goals and realize their dreams of seeing their book on the shelf.

And we can’t wait to see what stories are the first to join this next group of new releases!
