Many authors on Wattpad are also vivacious readers, supporting other writers within the community with enthusiasm and dedication. This observation could not be more true than with this weeks author, @chanmapan, who is one of the most incredible supporters within the Wattpad forum. Beyond her own writing (which is addictive, FYI), she puts just as much love and effort in to the writers she follows, showing that the community within Wattpad truly is a community…
It is our pleasure to feature this author this week!
When did you start writing on Wattpad?
I started writing in December 2015 but was hooked on Wattpad way before that.
What made you decide start posting your work on Wattpad?
I have always experimented with writing but since English is not my first language I was a bit hesitant. Still am to be honest. Every time I press the publish button my heart skips a beat. It was my students who encouraged me to write there and since I had a story to tell then I gave it a go.
What made Wattpad the best outlet for your writing?
The fact that it is interactive! People tell you what they think about it. Some say they love it and some say it needs work or bliah lol. Not commenting is also a statement. And then when I wake up in the morning to see the notifications or votes, it makes my day. Talking to the readers or your favourite authors that is a brilliant, wonderful thing.
Why is it that you write?
“Writing is a calling, not a choice” Isabel Allende
So I guess I write because I need to not because I choose to.
Do you want to be an author?
It would be a lie to say that it’s not my dream. However I am a realist. It is more likely to be published in my mother tongue than in English where the competition is fierce. Writing on Wattpad or anywhere for that matter makes me happy too.
If you could give any advice to a Wattpad writer, what would it be?
The more you write the better you become and another one that a friend shared with me recently “write for you rather than what people expect from you” ;)
What fandom do you think that you would never write about?
Oh dear Lord, this word fandom. I don’t know. Next question please!
What fandom do you want to write about?
I write for 1D because they are nice, polite people that I am not ashamed of. No, let me rephrase, I am proud of them. The way the carry themselves, the way they respond to fans. They are just four goofs who are really great guys and great role models for everyone. They are not my first choice in music but I certainly enjoy it.
What made you decide to write fan fiction?
I just figured that people can relate to a story more if they can put a face to the character and what better face than Harry Styles, am I right, or am I right?
Additionally I needed my students to read more in English and what better way to write a story where the main character is someone they adore.
Who are your favorite published authors?
Janette Winterson is a master of the art. Her books “Oranges are not the only fruit” and “Passion” are masterpieces.
What’s the best comment that you ever received from a reader?
They are so many but I guess the most recent one had in me in tears from @Cloesreadingcorner who said something like “…it is a stunning book and I would love to see this on a bookshelf one day. I am so glad that my friend told me to read this book as although I’m not really a one direction fan, this book is really something else. It’s amazing” God for someone to be so generous!
Who are your favorite Wattpad writers?
Oh they are so many. Can I write them all, please, please, please…OK thanks. And the Wattpad goes to @scooby-snacks, @Walkstar @styles_orama, @hesinstripes, @anzettejohnson, @Bea_Nice, @PoisedPen, @dirtyyarn, @LoveVincitOmnia, @allfourthemusic, @Kristimcm, @jhildey, @Posh777, @HarrysHighNote, @amberlove222, @dontbeadisaster, @Jax430, @highstylin, @zeffervescent, @laura_writes, @clouds7, @chinavase, @writetospeak, @MaggiesFault, @nicolothy. (out of breath) Check them out people!
Tell us about a story you’ve written that you’re most proud of and why people should be reading it.
I am proud of everything I have written because each piece is a part of me. I guess “The state that I’m in” is closer to heart for personal reasons but it needs to be edited as it was the first thing I attempted but my need to write more doesn’t allow me time to go back and do that but I will eventually.
Do you ever write from experience?
Two of my stories are from experiences but one is completely fictional.
Have you made friends thanks to being an author on Wattpad?
I have and I love them dearly. Is that possible, to care about people you have never met? Apparently it is. The friends I made here are incredible because they are based on the heart and on the mind. They are part of my daily life and I hope to meet them one day.
What’s your most well known story and why do you think it’s the most popular?
I think “Absolut Style” will end up being more popular even though “The state that I’m in” has more reads because it’s a complete work. There is definitely a lot more activity here. I feel the reason for this is that the main character Ella is a witty, independent woman with a humorous side and a gentle heart. She is not afraid to speak her mind and demand what is rightfully hers.
