Wattpad Writer Wednesday Author Interview with @MarionAvalon

Bringing you some of the best and brightest, newest and most established, we strive to feature every kind of Wattpad author there is!

This time, we would like you to meet @MarionAvalon

When did you start writing on Wattpad?

I started on Wattpad nearly two and a half years ago. And there’s not a single day where I’ve regretted signing up!

What made you decide start posting your work on Wattpad?

I intially only signed up to read another user’s story. I’d met her in real life and she’d told me about Wattpad. After I did, I decided why not? Though I initially had only planning on posting fanfiction. Until the Wattys, that is! (laughs)

What made Wattpad the best outlet for your writing?

I think what made it the best outlet is the knowledge that even the confirmed authors on here are still just people, and in some ways, still learning their craft just like the others. And how easy it is to interact with one another makes it a great way to make friends and give/receive helpful advice.

Why is it that you write?

I write because I always loved the feeling of being engrossed in a book, feeling for the characters, laughing at their mistakes, swooning in the romantic moments, feeling my heart break in the sad moments… and relating to the characters. Somehow, that made me want to do the same. Make people feel as good as I do when reading.

Do you want to be an author?

Well, I think every true writer wants that eventually ha ha! But yes, I would like to be an author. I’m already a writer, though, so halfway there, right? (laughs)

If you could give any advice to a Wattpad writer, what would it be?

Never stop writing. If people say it’s bad, make it better. But never stop writing if that’s what you want to do.

What fandom do you think that you would never write about?

That’s a tough one! (laughs) I think I’ll go with the least likely, because I never know what’ll inspire me. That would probably be the Doctor Who universe, because I’m not familiar enough with its many extraterrestrial creatures.

What fandom do you want to write about?

Harry Potter! Hands down (laughs). I have actually already written a HP fanfic on wattpad, and while a lot of it is close to the original material, I like the little twists I added. But there are plenty of other fandoms I like – Fairy Tail, Fullmetal Alchemist, Final Fantasy, Vampire Academy, Divergent, Avatar the Last Airbender… you get the idea! (laughs)

Who are your favorite published authors?

Well, there are several of course. JK Rowling would have to be the top spot, because she’s also a huge role model for me. But I really like Kiera Cass, Cassandra Clare, Sarah Dessen, Richelle Mead, Rick Riordan, Kerstin Gier, and a childhood favourite, Roal Dahl.

What’s the best comment that you ever received from a reader?

I love all the comments, of course, but I think my fave is one left by lovely friend author Sarah Benson – “We had a little ice cream parlour like this in my hometown and I just loved the nostalgic feel. You took me back there 🙂 I downed a lot of bubblegum ice cream there.

Jessica’s choice? Ha ha ha – gross!

Hm. I like this Bane. I want to know more. Voting and moving on.”

Who are your favorite Wattpad writers?

Oh, there are also many! Ha ha. Sarah Benson (sarahbensonbooks) Jessica Fry (JessicaBFry), Amber Bryant (Amberkbryant), and Debbie Goelz/Brittanie Charmintine (BrittanieCharmintine and DebbieGoelz), to name but a few.

nw-cover-1Tell us about a story you’ve written that you’re most proud of and why people should be reading it.

The story I’m proudest of would probably be my Afterlife series. I’ve only posted book 1 so far because I’m aiming to publish it. Why should people read it? Because it’s awesome, duh! Ha ha just kidding. I just think if they’re into angels, are interested in a new vision of Heaven and Hell, and forbidden romance, they would like it.

Do you ever write from experience?

Oh, yes. I often add little things I’ve personally experienced. No Way in Heaven or Hell (book 1 of the Afterlife series) is especially personal and speaks from experience.

Have you made friends thanks to being an author on Wattpad?

Oh, absolutely. Mainly the writers I mentioned earlier, but I have friendly interactions with a lot of my readers as well. But I think the best friend I made is a user named Nightshade22. We’re now Parabatai (bonus points for those who get the reference ;-).

What’s your most well known story and why do you think it’s the most popular?

I suppose that would have to be Four Elements. I think that’s thanks to the many other element-related stories on Wattpad. Seriously, it should be its own genre, there are so many!
