WHAT TO WATCH: Season premieres of ‘Nashville’ and ‘Modern Family’

It’s the most wonderful time of the year…the return of fall television. And let us tell you, it’s been too long. Far too long.

The new fall season continues tonight with season premieres of three returning and one new ABC comedies, as well as the series premiere of The Mysteries of Laura and Red Band Society returns with a new episode.

Here’s our watch list for Wednesday, Sept. 24:

In the third-season opener, Rayna must make a choice between two men and two different life paths. Meanwhile, Juliette auditions for a film biopic; and Scarlett takes a road trip home. Included: a performance by Florida Georgia Line.

Online dating leads to a woman’s murder, so Laura tries to bait the killer by using an Internet dating site and going to nightclubs undercover. She also considers getting back into the dating scene for real after Jake finally signs their divorce papers.

THE GOLDBERGS, 8:30/7:30c, ABC

In the second-season opener, Adam takes the next step in his blossoming relationship with Dana by creating a mix tape for her, but the tape falls into Beverly’s hands instead. Elsewhere, Barry gets caught with a fake ID.

MODERN FAMILY, 9/8c, ABC

A happy and carefree summer in the Dunphy household comes to an end in the Season 6 premiere when Alex returns from a humanitarian mission. Meanwhile, Mitchell and Cameron get back from their honeymoon, but the latter is still feeling like a newlywed; and Gloria sends a message to Jay about his slovenly appearance.

Leo has a meltdown when Jordi’s surgery takes a surprising turn. Meanwhile, Kara’s family try to use their influence to move her to the top of the heart-transplant list, but they overlook something that could help right away.

The Season 2 opener finds Voight under scrutiny by Internal Affairs as the Sheldon Jin murder investigation gets underway. Meanwhile, an undercover job goes awry; Burgess meets her new partner; and Lindsay visits her mother.
