Is there really too many times to watch To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before? If there is, I have probably reached it and at the same point I have no regrets. There is something about this movie that just hits you in the heart, and makes you feel all the feels.
And I am okay with that.
But one question I have had, since I read the books, is what is up with the lack of Josh? Sure, he’s in the movie, but not as much as the books. And yes, I am fully aware that there are changes from a book to movie adaptation.
The director addressed the Josh situation in a conversation with ET.
“It wasn’t avoided but it was certainly cut down in post,” she shared. “We had shot a little bit more than was there and we shot a resolution to that storyline, but at the end of the day, if we wanted to keep the momentum going for the chemistry that was taking over the film between Peter and Lara Jean, other things had to get cut down a little bit.”
I mean, we get that. Things always have to change.
“The character of Josh sort of got the short end of the stick a little bit, but there’s room to tell part of his story in the next movie even though he’s not so much in the second book.” she added.
To be honest, sure I missed Josh, but at the same time, I get what they are saying.
“There needs to be some resolution with that, but I’m Team Josh too because I love the boy [Israel Broussard] who plays him. It was a conscious decision on the part of Sofia [Alvarez], the writer, and Jenny [Han, author] and the others who developed the script because when I got it, there wasn’t too much more of Josh in that story, so I was a little surprised too.” she continued.
We can’t wait to see what Josh’s resolution is and how he is featured in the second movie. There will be a second one, right Netflix? Cause I know I need more.
To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before is currently streaming on Netflix.
