The former show runner of Daredevil, Steven DeKnight has revealed during a panel at the Television Critics Association that Rosario Dawson’s character, Claire Temple, could not play the role of Linda Carter/Night Nurse because Marvel has plans for that character to appear in the films, SlashFilm reported.
In the comics, Claire Temple is a nurse who is a love interest of Luke Cage. Linda Carter, however, is a nurse in New York that helps to patch up the super heroes like Luke Cage, Matt Murdock and Iron Fist. The Night Nurse is a significant supporting character and a love interest for Steven Strange/Doctor Strange, and Comic Book Resources has suggested that the film that the character might appear in will be 2016’s Doctor Strange.
DeKnight did say that they initially wanted to use Linda Carter/Night Nurse in Daredevil but “The feature side had plans for her down the road so that was the only time we ran into a conflict.” However, Rosario Dawson’s Claire Temple has had Night Nurse-esque qualities to her portrayal of Claire Temple such as her patching up Matt, and reports that say that Dawson will be popping up in the other Defenders series, playing similar roles.
On the Doctor Strange front, there have been rumors that Rachel McAdams is in talks to play the female. Could the character she plays be the Night Nurse?
Doctor Strange will be released November 4, 2016. Season 2 of Daredevil will stream on Netflix in 2016.
