Brunch is undeniably one of life’s greatest joys. Late starts, delicious food, and day drinking – what’s not to love? The only hard part is choosing where you’re going to partake of this magical meal. If you’re looking for a brunch that takes things to the next level, look no further than Anaheim’s World Fabulous Drag Brunch.
This fun event is a new monthly show at the House of Blues, combining wild entertainment, mimosas, and an all-you-can-eat brunch buffet. The brunch is typically hosted by Willam, but when we made the drive to Anaheim last weekend, special guest host Gia Gunn (best known from RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 6) was the one in charge – with additional performances by Mariah Balenciaga, Misty Violet, and The House of Avalon.
I’ve attended drag queen bingo events in West Hollywood before but had never been to a drag show, so I wasn’t really sure what to expect. But the brunch was undeniably fabulous from start to finish. We kicked things off with a photo booth, glow sticks, and an amazing buffet (not to mention mimosas). The food was delicious, ranging from breakfast classics to Southern-inspired dishes like chicken and waffles and jambalaya. Whether you’re a sweet or savory breakfast person, you will be totally satisfied.
Things got even more exciting as the show began. Gia Gunn was a great host, kicking things off with a lip-synch number of Cher’s “Believe” before doing some comedy and introducing the other acts. Misty Violet brought some more humorous numbers to the table – one with some impressive yodeling and one to get us in the Halloween spirit, involving a Freddy costume and dream/nightmare-related songs. Mariah Balenciaga was all glamour and amazing twirling outfits, while The House of Avalon had a more performative and avant-garde number.
From the music to the incredible costumes to the theatricality and audience participation of it all, the World Fabulous Drag Brunch was the kind of party we could all use in our weekend. The time flew by, and we left in great spirits.
If you live in Orange County, this should be a no-brainer, but it’s worth the drive from Los Angeles, too. With nearly two hours of great food and entertainment – and Disneyland just down the road to make a day of it – you really can’t go wrong.
