As much as we love coffee, we’re always up for a good cup of tea. That’s why we were thrilled to attend the World’s Largest Zero Waste Tea Tasting Party at Los Angeles’ California Science Center over the weekend – where 40+ teas and a variety of tea-themed desserts were available for tasting, entertainment abounded, and an exciting Kickstarter for tea lovers made its debut.
So what does the World’s Largest Zero Waste Tea Tasting Party look like? Tons of tea lovers and all the tea you can drink. Vendors including Bird Pick Tea & Herb, California Tea House, Waterfall Teas, and more kept attendees’ spirits up and thirst quenched with teas for all tastes. A few of our favorites were Chado’s White Champagne Raspberry – a refreshing white tea with just a hint of fruit flavor – and Boba Bear’s Milk Tea – sweet and satisfying. Cute, handy stations with lemon juice, sugar cubes, and honey allowed tea lovers to customize their brews to their individual tastes.
The only thing better than a good cup of tea is a dessert to go with it, so we were all over the selection of tea-themed desserts set out to delight our tastebuds. From Orange Tea Infused Chocolate Brownies and Earl Grey Shortbread Cookies to Orange Cranberry Scones and Lavender White Chocolate Pudding Cups, there was so much to love.
Attendees were also invited to participate in fun games – including “Tea Pong,” a Tea Cup Toss, and Tea Cup Stacking – to win author-themed teabags to take home. Musical groups ranging from Irish Rock (we definitely danced to a song we recognized from the Titanic soundtrack and definitely didn’t cry from Jack Dawson feels) to reggae rotated on the main stage, adding to the ambience. There were even three costume contests – Alice in Wonderland Characters, Afternoon Tea Dress, and Tea Themed (think Tea Cup, Tea Pot, etc.) – meaning that this was a seriously well-dressed crowd.
The main attraction was the launch of the Kickstarter campaign for The TeaBook, a fun and easy way to store, serve, and share your tea – designed to look like a book for maximum cuteness. Here’s a sneak peek at this must-have for tea lovers:
We got to take a look at The TeaBook on-site, and we could definitely see ourselves organizing our tea in this sweet holder (rather than sticking with the current system of tons of boxes on top of the fridge).
