Anna Silk’s guest appearance on Wynonna Earp‘s “The Other Woman” made me forget what show I was watching. No lie. It also felt like I was watching the holy trinity of the women that I love and worship when Kevin, Waverly, and Wynonna were trading barbs and vibing all over each other with a jar of pickles between them. *fans self*
Besides the vibing of gorgeous women, Wynonna Earp‘s “The Other Woman” saw Kat Barrell kick ass as a possessed version of herself thanks to a teenage witch who is a pain, if we’re being honest. We’re crossing our fingers and toes in the hopes that Maeve popped into Doc Holliday’s body before he nibbled on Charlie and killed him. If not, John Henry is burning all his bridges down for a taste of blood and because of something he chose.
Waverly is Totes Ma Goats, Gonna Die
If there’s anything TV has taught me, it’s that champions like Waverly die. Do you remember Kenzi from Lost Girl aka the other show Emily Andras worked on? They needed Bo’s, the succubus lead and hero, heart and it was her best friend Kenzi. It was a devastating realization and something that Bo would’ve done anything to stop, but it was Kenzi’s choice. And Kenzi, the one who always stood on the sidelines, who was protected by Bo time and time again, got the chance to repay the person she loved most in this world.
We’ve lost Dolls this season. Doc is on shaky ground now that he’s a vamp and that he killed Charlie. And before this season even started Wynonna lost her daughter. All of those deaths Wynonna survived because of the bond that she had with Waverly. And honestly, without her, I don’t know if Wynonna can survive Purgatory or even another day.
And we all know Wynonna. We know the lengths that she will go to protect her baby girl and we know how she will fight tooth and nail for Waverly. But this, being the champion and saving the day, is Waverly’s choice. For every moment that Wynonna has saved her, Waverly’s wanted to do it in return. And now Waverly gets to do thar for Wynonna, her sister and her protector. There’s no replacing or talking Waverly’s place this time. And for the safety of the town, Wynonna is gonna have to step aside.
Kat Barrell Needs All the Awards for Playing Possessed Nicole
One of my favorite parts of season 3 of Wynonna Earp is the development of Nicole Haught. No longer is she just the ginger cop of Purgatory or the girlfriend of the leads sister. Nicole is her own person who is no longer defined by those around her. She’s a friend, confidant, badass with a secret past connected to Purgatory, and the newest Sheriff of this shit show they call home.
This exploration of Nicole Haught has allowed Kat Barrell to flex her acting muscles left and right. And I don’t know what it is about being possessed, but Barrell does an excellent job at it! Whether it’s glamored Nicole or possessed by a witch Nicole, Barrell leaves you wanting more of her crazy antics. I couldn’t stop laughing at how cute and evil Barrell looked as she sat on the floor, shrugging like she was a kid being asked who stole the cookies from the cookie jar. She did and her whole demeanor lets you know that she knows it.
While watching Barrell flexing those acting muscles is fun and all, I hope it doesn’t become a cliched thing with her. Basically, I don’t want it to be the only time that we see Nicole unwind, besides sexy times with Waverly. There’s more to Nicole and I’m down for exploring everything and anything when it comes to this cop. So, yes, give me Bulshar and Nicole’s mysterious connection to him. But, give me more of the kind of person she is and what her future as Sheriff of Purgatory will be truly like.
Doc Holliday Better Be Possessed
Let’s start off by saying that even now, I get shivers down my spine at the confrontation between Nicole and Doc Holliday. Nicole went to bat for Doc and this is how he repays her? Nope. That’s not going to work for Nicole and she lets him know it! He’s burned one of the final bridges he had in this town and I fear that things are just going to get worse from here on out. People do crazy things when they feel like they’ve lost everything. Throw a little vampire into the mix and it’s definitely a recipe for disaster!
And let’s not forget that damn creepy smile when Doc was walking away from Nicole. Doc Holliday better be possessed! Because if not, he took a great deal of pleasure at killing Charlie. Which, that boy was new and Wonderbread as they come, but Charlie was sweet, kind, and helpful. And that date he had with Wynonna was probably the happiest and relaxed I’ve seen her this entire season! I knew Charlie wasn’t going to be endgame but dear lord, can’t Wynonna have anything good in her life? Anything she can keep? Anything that will stand by her side and make her happy?
*rubs temples in misery*
Before we wrap this up, because I’m getting a tension headache, I’d like to throw out the possibility that Doc died in that house. He did say, “The fire was too much.” What if he died in there, was possessed by Maeve, and bit Charlie because she wasn’t used to this bodies hunger? What if? It’ll be a shit ton of pain on the angst train express, but next week is the 2-hour season finale. Might as well go out with a bang and surprise us all!
P.S. I’ll bring the tissues!
Favorite Moment from Wynonna Earp’s “The Other Woman”:
For a moment there I forgot I was watching Wynonna Earp and was cheering Anna Silk’s new character for clocking a threat in the throat. If that isn’t a sign that I miss Bo and Lost Girl then I don’t know what is! I feel a rewatch of this episode to get more Kevin is due. Also a Lost Girl rewatch. I need more Anna Silk in my life!
