Stephen Amell is coming to DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, and some new details about his appearance have been revealed (via EW.com), including a certain detail that some comic fans have been waiting for.
Amell will reprise his role as Oliver Queen in the sixth episode of the season, which finds our team of legends in the year 2046. This older version of Oliver will be sporting the comic-signature goatee but also missing one of his arms, which pays homage to a certain comic.
The episode will also introduce Connor Hawke, who in the comics is Oliver’s son and the second Green Arrow. But in this Arrowverse, Connor is not the son of Oliver Queen and Sandra Hawke.
“Every once and a while, we do an episode where the 10-year-old me has to pinch himself,” executive producer Marc Guggenheim told EW. “We’re not only introducing our version of Connor Hawke to our universe, we’re going to meet the 2046 version of Oliver Queen, and Stephen Amell is going to be reprising his role from Arrow. As an added bonus to comic-book fans, Oliver is missing his left arm and will be sporting a goatee, in a nod to the character’s appearance in the seminal Dark Knight Returns. We think this episode features some of the coolest things we’ve ever done.”
Let’s hope that the legends can rewrite history to ensure that Oliver Queen of the future still has both of his arms. Isn’t the point of this time travel: to save the world and rewrite some of their histories in the process?
DC’s Legends of Tomorrow airs Thursdays at 8/7c on The CW.
