‘Spotlight’ Director Signs On For ‘Thirteen Reasons Why’

One show that we are looking forward to is 13 Reasons Why. It is one of our favorite books ever and we’ve been waiting for a long time for movement on it.

So we got really excited that Netflix has picked it up for a series after the attempt to make it into a movie with Universal fell through and now we have more movement. Tom McCarthy, the director of Spotlight has signed onto direct and produce the adaptation of Jay Asher’s book.

This is pretty big news.

Executive producing the series is Selena Gomez, who has not signed on for a role. Though we would love to see her in the series (we’re big fans).

BOOK SYNOPSIS: Clay Jensen returns home from school to find a mysterious box with his name on it lying on his porch. Inside he discovers thirteen cassette tapes recorded by Hannah Baker, his classmate and crush who committed suicide two weeks earlier.

On tape, Hannah explains that there are thirteen reasons why she decided to end her life. Clay is one of them. If he listens, he’ll find out how he made the list.

Through Hannah and Clay’s dual narratives, debut author Jay Asher weaves an intricate and heartrending story of confusion and desperation that will deeply affect teen readers.
