We Saw ‘Allegiant’ and Here’s What We Thought…

I will be the first to admit to you that when it comes to Theo James, my eyes get blinded and I loose sense of direction. One can’t really blame me – because it’s Theo and when you look at him everything goes away.

We were lucky to attend the NYC premiere of Allegiant and had the opportunity to watch the movie. We’re breaking down what we think of the 3rd installment in The Divergent Series.

The third installment of the blockbuster Divergent series franchise, ALLEGIANT takes Tris [Shailene Woodley] and Four [Theo James] into a new world, far more dangerous than ever before.

After the earth-shattering revelations of INSURGENT, Tris must escape with Four and go beyond the wall enclosing Chicago. For the first time ever, they will leave the only city and family they have ever known. Once outside, old discoveries are quickly rendered meaningless with the revelation of shocking new truths. Tris and Four must quickly decide who they can trust as a ruthless battle ignites beyond the walls of Chicago which threatens all of humanity. In order to survive, Tris will be forced to make impossible choices about courage, allegiance, sacrifice and love.

We don’t want to tell you that the movie is like the book – it isn’t. But it’s not that simple. We’ve all guessed that Allegiant would be different, but the departure from the books isn’t bad. It delivers what it is supposed to – two hours of action and suspense that leave you wondering what comes next.

Let’s break it down-

Four

Four is and forever will be our book boyfriend and we love him. Theo James delivers another flawless performance as Four – bringing the man that we loved in the books back to life. We get to see him cover an array of emotions from love to pain to disappointment to happiness. The truth is the character of Four has grown so much across the franchise that one can’t help but feel that you are getting to know him and he’s a friend. He’s someone that you root for and quite frankly – someone that you fall for.

While we won’t lie to you and say that it’s the Four of the books – the Four that we meet in Allegiant is so good that you don’t really mind it. You want the man that stands up for you, loves you, and stands by you unconditionally. That’s the Four you get.

Tris

There is a part of us that will always feel for Tris – because that girl has the weight of the world on her shoulders and it’s not getting any better for her. She wants nothing more than to save the world, but sometimes she doesn’t realize that she can’t save everyone. One thing that we have always loved about Tris is that she is so strong, fierce, and at the same time vulnerable and loving. Shailene Woodley does a great job at portraying her and we will always think that she is the perfect Tris.

Tris’ devotion to her family is something that we love. The way that she sacrifices for Caleb – it’s just something that we hope that we would be selfless enough to do. She continues to deliver in Allegiant.

Caleb

When we were on the set of Allegiant and met Ansel Elgort, he said that he wants people to like him for his acting and we can guarantee you that you will LOVE him in Allegiant. In a movie that is so serious, so intense – he provides comedy that you can’t help but love. Caleb has learned his lesson and he’s embracing the part of him that is like his sister.

Ansel has shown amazing growth from the first movie until now and he’s made fans for life out of us. Yes, he’s easy to look at, but he’s a great actor.

Peter and Christina

Guys – lets talk Miles Teller’s portrayl of Peter. We’ll say it with this simple phrase – STEALS EVERY SCENE HE IS IN.

Zoe Kravitz as Christina makes you feel like you are sitting there talking to your best friend. You’re thankful that she’s there for Tris. You don’t know what you would do without her being there. You’d miss her if she wasn’t there and we love her.

The Newbies, The Settings, The Changes

We can’t say a lot without giving it away and that’s hard for us. Cause we like to share.

Jeff Daniels is ultra creepy. We just want to put that out there. But not in a bad way – we’re talking in a way that you can’t take your eyes off in a film. The winner – the MVP of the newbies is definitely Bill Skarsgard. That man is perfection.

The settings are unlike anything you expect, but we loved them.

The changes. Well… there are a lot. But if you go in with an open mind, you will be okay with them. The core of the book is there. There was an opportunity to expand and at the end of the movie – it leaves you knowing that there is more out there. Allegiant leaves with more to prove – the city of Chicago, The Bureau – and we can’t wait to see how they do that in Allegiant.
