Michelle Fairley, known to Game of Thrones fans as Catelyn Stark, has been cast as Margaret Beaufort in “The White Princess,” the follow up to the Starz Original Miniseries event “The White Queen.”
Starz has also announced that Jodie Comer will play Princess Elizabeth of York.
“The White Princess” is an adaptation of Philippa Gregory’s best-selling novel of the same name, and part of “The Cousins’ War” book series. It tells the story of England’s War of the Roses – from the female side.
The limited series drama will run for eight episodes and will begin shooting in England later this year.
Fairley is set to play Margaret Beaufort, Henry Tudor’s mother, widely regarded as the mastermind behind his ascent to the Throne of England. She was also a philanthropist, a benefactor of the church …and a murderer.
Comer, on the other hand, will play Princess Elizabeth of York (daughter of “The White Queen”), who is forced into marriage a marriage with Henry VII to unite the Houses of York and Tudor. This union, will, of course, put her in direct conflict with Henry’s domineering mother, and will also put her in the spot when she’s forced to choose between being a Tudor wife or a York princess.
Emma Frost (“The White Queen,” “The Man in the High Castle,” “Shameless”) will return to serve as Showrunner and Executive Producer with Gregory serving as Executive Producer.
“The White Princess” is set to air on Starz in 2017.
