This week in sports: All eyes on the NBA finals

Hello there! We like a little bit of everything here in Fangirlish, and since we’re also covering sports now, we’ll be doing a sort of recap at the end of the week of the notable sports stories of the past seven days. Starting with ….

  • The seventh game of the NBA finals will be played tonight at 8:00 pm ET. The series is tied 3-3 with all games having been won by more than ten points.  The Warriors have home-filed advantage. The Cavaliers, however, have forced a fame 7 after being down 3-1 in the series.
  • The Copa America Centenario, the continent’s most important soccer tournament, is down to the semifinals. The US will play Argentina in the first semifinal, to be played Tuesday night. On Wednesday Colombia and Chile will meet. The winners will play the final game on Sunday – the losers will fight for third place on Saturday.
  • The EuroCup, Europe’s biggest soccer tournament is also under way, with group stage set to end Tuesday. Only Italy has qualified so far.
  • With two hits Wednesday, Miami Marlins outfielder Ichiro Suzuki passed Pete Rose’s record for career hits with 4,257. MLB celebrated his accomplishments, as debate raged as to whether he should be considered baseball’s “hit king.” – after all, 1,278 of his hits were in Japan’s major leagues, and 2,979 in MLB. Either way, Suzuki is clearly one of the best hitters to ever play the game.

And …that’s pretty much it! Join us next time as we once again recap the most important sports news of the week!
