5 Reasons Why WestAllen Should Be Crowned ‘Ship of the Year’

While Barry Allen might’ve changed time as we know it in The Flash’s season two finale, one that will never waver is our belief that Barry and Iris West will find their way back to each other. Because they’re meant to be.

Fans of the ship known as WestAllen have much love for the fated couple, which is why Barry Allen and Iris West are nominated for “Ship of the Year” at the 2016 MTV Fandom Awards. And there are many reasons why fans love WestAllen. From those thoughtful glances to that strong bond, it’s no wonder why WestAllen is nominated for MTV’s ‘Ship of the Year.’

Here are five reasons why Barry and Iris should be crowned MTV’s ‘‘Ship of the Year”:

1. Their Strong Bond

One of the things that has made Barry and Iris’ relationship so strong is the bond that they’ve shared throughout their lives. Following Barry’s mother’s death and his father’s imprisonment, the Wests took Barry in and the rest as they say is history. It was Barry and Iris’ friendship and that reliance over the years that helped create a bond that not only creates a relationship but sustains it over time. Barry and Iris weren’t introduced as a romantic couple. They got to grow into that relationship throughout the past two seasons as fans looked on with heart eyes.

2. Their Belief in Each Other

When it comes down to it, there is no one who believes more in Barry Allen than Iris West and that believes in Iris West more than Barry Allen. The belief that they have in one another signifies the strength of their relationship. While they are strong together the faith that they have in each other is inspiring. Whether that’s Iris’ belief in Barry’s heroism or Barry’s belief in Iris’ career and her inner strength. Watching these two love and support each other in every aspect of their lives is truly special.

3. They Waited For Each Other

While there has never been any doubt about how much Barry and Iris care about each other, they haven’t been on the same page when it comes to moving forward romantically. But that’s life for you. Sometimes you just have to be willing to wait for the right moment. When Iris dated and then mourned Eddie Thawne, Barry waited. And in the season finale when Barry told Iris that he wasn’t in the right frame of mind that she deserved, Iris said she would wait. Now that Barry has altered time we don’t know how long it will take before they find their way back to each other. But Barry and Iris have waited before. And they’ll wait again.

4. Their Natural Chemistry

When it comes to ‘ships one of the most essential elements of a successful one is an organic chemistry that turns a fictional couple into one that seems not-so-fictional. Grant Gustin and Candice Patton have a natural chemistry that we’ve seen flourish over these past two seasons as their characters have grown through the different experiences that have defined their relationship. It’s immediately obvious if a ship doesn’t have chemistry. It’s also immediately obvious if they have a natural one. And what makes WestAllen so perfect is that natural rapport between the actors.

5. The Actors Ship It, Too!

You know a ship has struck a chord when the actors who play the iconic lovers ship it, too. Grant Gustin and Candice Patton are so supportive of each other as individuals, as well as supportive of the relationship between the characters that they play on screen. Through their public displays of support and admiration fans can see just how much these actors care about the characters they portray, as well as the iconic relationship they know fans are looking to them to bring to life.
