The Flash Producer Teases WestAllen's Flashpoint Relationship & More in Season 3

When Barry Allen made the decision to go back in time and save his mother, he got everything he wanted. And then he lost something he also wanted.
As The Flash heads into its third season, the series will tackle the famous Flashpoint storyline as Barry’s decision has triggered a series of events that has reshaped this universe as we know it. Sure, both of Barry’s parents are now alive and well, but Barry no longer has a relationship with the love of his life, Iris West.
In two seasons we’ve watched as Barry and Iris found their way to each other. In the season finale, Iris confessed her love for Barry and was ready to give their romance a go. Only Barry — despite having the girl he’s always wanted — still didn’t feel content given the loss he’d suffered. So he made a selfish decision to go back in time and save both of his parents essentially.
But Barry’s decision has changed things with Iris in this Flashpoint universe.
“Now he has to approach her as a girl he had a schoolboy crush on for 14 years,” executive producer Aaron Helbing told TVLine.
While we’re expecting the original timeline to come back somewhat early on this season, that doesn’t change the fact that Flashpoint leaves a mark.
“The whole season is affected because of [Flashpoint],” Helbing said.
This season, The Flash will introduce Mirror Master (played by Grey Damon). But Helbing cautions that the show’s character “doesn’t use the [mirror] gun. He’s a true meta, but he’s not necessarily warping into other dimensions.”
As for the villains that Barry will encounter in season, Big Bads Savitar and Dr. Alchemy promise to wage “psychological warfare.” A familiar face — that has gone from villainous to heroic on DC’s Legends of Tomorrow — will show up as Captain Cold returns in episode 4.
The Flash season 3 premieres Tuesday, Oct. 4 at 8/7c on The CW.
