Louis Tomlinson Sings Emotional Tribute In Honor of His Mother, Johannah

In a true showing of professionalism and dedication, Louis Tomlinson took to the stage of the X Factor UK tonight (December 10) to sing a tribute to his mother, Johanna, who passed away from leukemia on December 7. The news of her passing came as a surprise to the fandom and media world, with no indication leaked outside of the family that there was issues with her health. The outpouring of love and support that followed was heartwarming, from Louis’ One Direction bandmates, media, family and friends.

It is said to have been Johannah’s dying wish for Louis to perform on the X Factors finale this year, the same show that launched his career. And he did so, singing his solo debut Just Hold On, a collaboration with Steve Aoki.

Following the stellar performance, Tomlinson kissed his fingers, before reaching to the sky in a silent and touching moment to his mother.

Showing that the One Direction gang truly is a family, Niall, Liam, Harry and even former member Zayn were all present for the performance to show their support for Louis, his family, and their love for Johannah.

X Factor guru Simon Cowell took a moment to speak to Louis following the performance, and his words of praise and love only heightened the already emotional climate of the night.

“You know what. I have to say something to you. I’ve known you now for six years. What you’ve just done — and the bravery — I respect you as an artist, I respect you as a person, and your mum was so proud of you, Louis, and she was so looking forward to tonight. She watching down on you now, and you’ve done her proud.”  – Simon Cowell

Hours before the performance, Louis broke his social media silence to thank fans for their support on Twitter. “All the support has been incredible! Let’s do this together tonight.”

The support following the performance was a continuance of that shown to Louis and his family during this time. Tweets of love, respect, admiration and support from Dan Deakin (husband of Johannah), as well as the trending hash tag #ProudofLouis bringing the fandom into the process.

We are so proud of Louis for his strength, and our thoughts continue to be with him and his family during this time. The song is incredible, Louis’ dedication is amazing, and we know he will continue to make Johannah proud.
