Where do I even begin? This week in the NHL has definitely been intense. With the 1/2 season mark quickly approaching, we’re beginning to get an idea of who this season’s breakout stars are going to be, but we’ve still got a long way to go until April.
So, who won this week and who lost? Take a look to find out.
Artemi Panarin – With 4 goals and 5 assists in the last week, Panarin is definitely on a hot streak right now. If he is (foolishly) left unclaimed in any fantasy leagues, grab him up immediately!
Alexander Ovechkin – Ovi has been off to a big of a sluggish start, so far this season. Especially in comparison to the oft compared Crosby. But with 2 goals, 2 assists in the past week, he looks to be edging his way back up the scoring leaderboard.
Columbus Blue Jackets – The Jackets are 9-0-1 in their last 10 games, and Bobrovsky has a save percentage of .932. They are absolutely on fire right now. Can they sustain this pace for the reset of the season? I’m skeptical, but we’ll see.
Nashville Predators – On paper, the Predators are worthy of a Stanley Cup. They’ve got one of the best defensemen in the league (Subban), a young (former) goal scorer in Forsberg and an above-average goalie in Rinne. However, none of these guys have been playing to full potential as of late and it’s really starting to show. They still have time to turn things around, but that time is running short.
Mark Giordano – Gio is usually a dependable defensemen and goal scorer, but he’s been in a bit of a rut as of late. With a -4 plus minus and no goals or assists in the last 7 days, he needs to pick up the pace.
Claude Giroux – Much like Giordano, it was probably just a bit of a slow week for Giroux, he’s at a -3 and doesn’t have many shots on goal, but with the way Philly has been playing lately, he’ll probably be on the winning list very soon.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Peter Holland, Arizona Coyotes – You may not know much about Peter, as he spent much of this season warming the bench for the Maple Leafs. However, less than a week after being traded to the Coyotes he scored his first ever game winning goal against his former team. That’s some karma, right there.
