With the new year approaching, that also means a new year of amazing books to look forward to. Each year book lovers have lists of the ones they are most excited about, and we here at Fangirlish are no exception. The anticipation surrounding our top 5 picks have us all a twitter waiting to get our greedy little grabby hands on official copies, devour every word, and show our love and support for some of our favorite authors.
Here are some of the books we are looking forward to in 2017 – cause guys – this list could be a mile long.
Textrovert – Lindsay Summers – KCPLoft
Originating on the uber popular forum Wattpad as The Cell Phone Swap, Summers makes you fall in love with her relatable style and bantering characters. When the quiet and shy Keeley accidently ends up with the cell phone of the popular jock Talon, the two are forced to pass on each others messages for a whole week. Absolute torture, right? But slowly they get to know the person behind the phone, and everything changes.
With a release date of May 2, 2017, we cant wait to see how the published version differs from the Wattpad sensation.
Lord of Shadows – Cassandra Claire – Margaret McElderry Books
Find me a person who hasn’t read, or at least heard of, the Mortal Instruments and Infernal Devices series’ I will be shocked. Some of the most popular young adult novels in the fantasy world, Claire has a unique gift for weaving worlds, bucking trends, and including unmatched diversity into her books. This talent continues with her latest series, the Dark Artifices, and its latest installment is one that has us waiting with baited breath. Following a new generation of Shadow Hunters, Claire shows strength in her characters, as they face off against the Clave, Faerie and everything that threatens to tear their world apart.
Release date is scheduled for May 23, 2017
Gilded Cage – Vic James – Del Rey Books
Another Wattpad to the page sensation, originally entitled Slave Days, this book grabs you from page one. A deliciously dark Harry Potter meets Hunger Games, you follow the lives of a family as they endure their 10 years slave labour – the only way a person can be considered an actual citizen in this new-modern Britain. Absolutely gripping, it is already receiving rave reviews.
Release date of February 14, 2017 means that Valentines Day will be spent with this gem in our hands! Forget the sappy dinner, give me dark and twisted!
Now I Rise – Kiersten White – Delacorte Press
The ability to blend worlds and do so seamlessly is a challenge for most writers, but not for White. Empires, thrones and saving the world they know is all weaved into this latest installment of her Conquerer’s saga, and it doesn’t disappoint as it forces the characters to choose their loyalties, or risk the fall of the nation.
June 27, 2017 you can get this in your greedy little hands.
Dating You/Hating You – Christina Lauren – Gallery Books
There is nothing that Christina Lauren writes that we don’t fall in love with, but with this book, we feel like we’re about to get more than we ever had from them.
And that excites us.
The first standalone romance by New York Times and #1 international bestselling author Christina Lauren (Beautiful Bastard) is a sexy, compulsively readable romantic comedy that dives headlong into the thrill and doubt of modern love.
We’re ready for it and ready for them!
A Court of Wing and Ruin – Sarah J. Maas – Bloomsbury Children’s Books
There is not a book that Sarah J. Maas doesn’t try and destroy us with and we’re pretty much thinking that she’s going to be able to so it with this one too.
“In this thrilling third book in the #1 New York Times bestselling series from Sarah J. Maas, the earth will be painted red as mighty armies grapple for power over the one thing that could destroy them all.” – the Goodreads description reads.
We’re not ready, but we’ll be first in line to get A Court of Wings and Ruin on May 2nd, 2017.
King’s Cage – Victoria Aveyard – HarperTeen
We recently saw the trailer and our jaws were on the floor. But can you blame us? Victoria Aveyard’s series has left us on the edge of our seats with every page.
We devoured The Red Queen and Glass Sword in a matter of hours – so it’s no shocker that we’re all in for the 3rd book in the series.
That tagline – ALL WILL BURN – has us freaking out. That crown on the cover is made of bones! WHAT ARE WE IN STORE FOR?
We’ll find out when it hits bookshelves, February 7, 2017.
Wayfarer – Alexandra Bracken – Disney Hyperion
There are very few authors that are more talented than Alexandra Bracken. Passenger left us emotionally compromised and we were unable to move. It was like one of those things that you knew you read, but you weren’t sure that you had read – because there were just so many feelings.
The cover is stunning.
And we’re wondering if Julian will get his redemption or if there is any for him? Or if we are going to hate him for life? Either way, this is a sequel that we can’t wait to get our hands on.
Always and Forever Lara Jean – Jenny Han – Simon & Schuster
There is no one in the world that writes like Jenny Han. No one. She’s a favorite here and we devour every single word she writes.
When she surprised us all and let us know that she was writing one more book in the To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before series, there may have been tears.
Okay there was a lot of them.
We can’t wait for May 2nd, 2017 and adding this book to our bookshelves.
Roar – Cora Carmack – Tor Teen
We will be honest, we’ve basically read every single one of Cora’s new adult books and devoured them. She’s set our hearts on fire with her words.
And in that built fans for life.
So we are willing to dive all in with Cora as she dives into her YA Series. And that cover.
Can we talk about it’s magnificance? Consider us sold.
Roar hits shelves June 13, 2017.
Defy The Stars – Claudia Gray – Little Brown
Whomever it is that designs all Claudia’s book covers needs to know that they design some of the prettiest stuff that is out there.
Cause it’s gorgeous – they all are.
We are intrigued by the premise – a lot because she writes Star Wars books and the premise feels a little on them. BUT – that being said, we’re looking forward to it.
Defy the Stars hits shelves April 4th.
Once and For All – Sarah Dessen – Viking Books
We’ve been waiting on the edge of our seats for Sarah Dessen’s next book and we’ve finally got it.
Nothing has made us happier.
Dessen is a wordsmith – a contemporary wordsmith. Her thirteenth book – we have a feeling will be worth the wait. It will remind us that we are single – cause it’s set in the world of wedding planning, but hey… we’ll survive.
We know this book will be as entertaining as the rest of her books and will embrace it when it hits shelves, June 6th.
The Spring Girls – Anna Todd – Gallery Books
Little Women is one of our favorite books ever. Then again, so is After. No wonder we are excited for Anna Todd’s retelling of Little Women in, The Spring Girls.
Part of what makes us so excited for this book is Anna’s excitement for the book. She’s currently writing it now and we get to see how excited she is every day.
That excitement is contagious.
Though there is no official publication date as of yet, it says 2017. We can’t wait.
The Hate U Give – Angie Thomas – Balzer & Bray
When you read a book and it moves you to the core – you can’t wait for the entire world to read it.
The Hate U Give is that book.
Inspired by the Black Lives Matter movement, this is a powerful and gripping YA novel about one girl’s struggle for justice.
The book hits shelves February 28th and it’s a book that you can not miss.
Stranger Than Fanfiction – Chris Colfer – Little Brown
Maybe it’s our addiction to Fan Fiction (seriously there is some really great stuff out there guys) or our eternal love for Glee and there fore Chris Colfer by default, but we’re looking forward to this book.
A cross country road trip with the people whose moves we follow? We’re there.
Stranger Than Fanfiction hits bookshelves, March 7, 2017.
Of course, there are many more books you can expect for 2017. Depending on your reading preferences, there is no shortage of awesomeness on the horizon. But be sure to get your hands on these titles, because they will go fast. And no doubt will hit the best seller lists quicker than you can say ‘gimme that book!’
