The CW has found a hit with their freshman show Riverdale. The Berlanti Productions show, which is half way through it’s first season, has just scored a season two!
It’s not much of a surprise because the Berlanti name carries a lot of weight at The CW. He’s been involved in multiple of their shows and will take part in four of the shows returning/premiering for the 2017-18 season on the network.
It’s also not much a surprise considering that The CW likes taking chances on freshman shows that are just beginning to gain ground with audiences but have garnered critical acclaim from the start. These shows include The 100, iZombie, The Originals, and even Reign.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, an earlier renewal can also be attributed to their streaming services on the CW app and it’s website. It’s become the network’s most streamed show since it’s premiere back in January of this year.
This noir style live-action show, based on the Archie Comics, will now have an opportunity to expand on their world and bring us even more Archie, Betty, Veronica, and Jughead. Here’s hoping the show taps into it’s comic book roots a little more and brings about unexpected and unique guests.
Riverdale airs Thursdays at 9/8c on The CW.
