Supergirl has been thriving in its sophomore season delivering incredible stories, important issues, and beautiful character journeys. While it’s maintained the elements that made it work in season 1, it’s also introduced some new faces that have made this second season even better than the first.
Among those new faces is Lena Luthor, played by Katie McGrath, who we’re not sure will end up being Kara’s friend or foe in the long run. But we’ll soon find out as Lena will become a more permanent fixture next season.
McGrath has been promoted to series regular for Supergirl‘s third season, reports Deadline.
McGrath first appeared in Supergirl‘s second episode of it current second season and has since appeared in six additional episodes this season.
One of those episodes, “Luthors,” hinted that Supergirl had grand plans for Lena Luthor. And it appears as if that’s come to fruition as Lena will take on a more significant role next season.
With McGrath becoming a more permanent fixture on the show next season, it feels as if we can expect to see Supergirl explore Kara and Lena’s friendship while also setting that Easter egg that perhaps these friends will turn into enemies down the road. It’s always something that has to be in the back of your mind given the Luthor past.
Lena is definitely a wildcard. And you bet we’re beyond thrilled to get to see McGrath further explore this character in season 3.
