Liam Payne Discusses Harry Styles Solo Music

When One Direction decided to take a hiatus, allowing each member to spread their wings and find their own sound, it was inevitable that each of those sounds would be a little different. While Niall seems to be sticking with the smooth, joyful pop sound he has loved his whole life, and Louis released his ‘Just Hold On’ single, an upbeat, danceable vibe,  Harry is moving in more of a rock direction with his debut self-titled album.

While we wait to hear exactly what sound Liam Payne has gravitated towards, with Strip That Down hitting the air tomorrow (May 19), each of the lads have been making their media rounds promoting their work. And, of course, each others music tends to come up.

When recently asked what Liam thought of Harrys solo work, particularly Sign of the Times, he was quite honest in an interview with Music Choice.

“Harry’s song I heard, and I’ll be honest with you, it’s not my sort of music. It’s not something I’d listen to, but I think he did a great job of doing what he wanted to do. That’s the way I’d put it best, I think.” – Liam Payne ; Music Choice

Of course, Liam admitted that the feeling would probably go both ways.

“And I think the funny thing is, he would say the same thing about me because he doesn’t really listen to hip-hop music, where it’s like my song’s more ‘Rack City,’ and his song is more of a different era to something I’d listen to, I guess.”

Of course the 1D fandom blew up, taking the quote as more of a diss than Payne probably meant it. Musical preference doesn’t mean that Liam does not support Harry, or wish him success. It is simply a matter of taste, and while he continues to support his friend, is he required to pay lip service to a sound that isnt really his cup of tea? Personally, I dont think so.

Unfortunately, the fandom is fickle, and this little slip may hinder Liam’s release in light of the Harry AF nature of recent weeks. I guess we will see tomorrow, when Strip That Down meets our ears.
