It is always an exciting day when an author gets to celebrate their ‘book birthday’. The day that their book is launched into the world. For many authors, their books are like their children; hours of work, love, worry and perfection spent, culminating in this day that you hand that work over to the public, and hope for the best.
When that book started off on Wattpad, already holding millions of readers hearts and attention, the book birthday is something that the entire Wattpad family anticipates. Wattpad is a community of writers who support each other, readers who love the books as much as their creators, and HQ staff who have a tree in their office dedicated to those books that make it to the shelves.
June 6 welcomed yet another book to that tree and the shelves, as AV Geiger and her fandom focus thriller Follow Me Back launched to the world. The story is one of the most popular on the forum, with millions of reads, the author who is a Wattpad Star, and this is one of the most anticipated releases for the community this year.
The story is a unique twist on the modern obsession with fandom and celebrity. I have read it myself, and have to say I was hooked on every page, gasping, giggling, and swooning until the final pages, which saw me throw the book across the room and send the author a frantic message begging for more.
Yup. It was that good.
The release is the first for Geiger, but it wont be the last. The second installment will bring the story to a close some time next year, and I for one cant wait.
Here is the synopsis:
Tessa Hart’s world feels very small. Confined to her bedroom with agoraphobia, her one escape is the online fandom for pop sensation Eric Thorn. When he tweets to his fans, it’s like his speaking directly to her…
Eric Thorn is frightened by his obsessive fans. They take their devotion way too far. It doesn’t help that his PR team keeps posting to encourage their fantasies.
When a fellow pop star is murdered at the hands of a fan, Eric knows he has to do something to shatter his online image fast—like take down one of his top Twitter followers. But Eric’s plan to troll @TessaHeartsEric unexpectedly evolves into an online relationship deeper than either could have imagined. And when the two arrange to meet IRL, what should have made for the world’s best episode of Catfish takes a deadly turn…
Surely, Geiger was celebrating this exciting milestone in her career. But as with any big Wattpad release, her Watt-fam was celebrating with her!
Wattpad themselves counted down the days until the release, also sharing the trailer for the story on their Twitter
Uber awesome fellow authors, including Angie Thomas, author of The Hate You Give, Anna Todd of the After Series, and Lindsey Summers of Textrovert fame, shouted out their praise for the story.
And, of course, the Wattpad family squeed with pride and praise, taking to social media to show their support!
So many congrats to you Viv, for the release of this incredible book! We cant wait for the next, and many more after that!
