Welcome to another Sunday of talking about the shows that made us laugh, cry, go awww and, of course, look around and wonder what in the world was happening. If it made us feel things, whether they were good, or bad, then this is where we talk about it. This is where you tell us if you agree. This is where we let it all out.
So, without further ado, here are these week’s picks:
Badass Female Character of the Week
Lyra: Wynonna Earp and her backflipping, baby bumping, badassery still has me flustered and begging for more. The fact that she’s pregnant and still throws it down with Dolls and Waverly as if nothing has happened blows my mind and makes for good TV. I take that back…IT MAKES FOR UNFORGETTABLE TV! She isn’t handicapped or unable to help out her friends and family. If anything, she’s got more to fight for now. But unlike other shows, the woman we have come to love over the last two seasons isn’t going away just because she’s got a bun in the oven.
Chloe: I’m going to give this one to Sutton on The Bold Type. This week’s episode saw her struggle with whether she could afford to accept her dream job on the fashion team, which had a lower starting salary than her previous position. Watching Sutton negotiate additional benefits for herself may not seem like riveting TV on the surface, but it’s a real situation that we don’t normally see in entertainment. We all have to start somewhere to make our dream careers happen, but we can’t always afford to – and I’m so proud of Sutton for fighting for what she not only deserves, but also needs. You go, girl.
Erin: For me, this is really hard – because I want to give this to Kat, Jane, and Sutton on The Bold Type. I am loving this show. I think that as I watch it each week, I become more and more inspired by them. Like these characters can each make us grow because they show us real life situations and they show the growth and the struggle. So each of them are badass to me because they are navigating these mean streets of NYC and a world that is really hard and they are kicking ass. So I choose them.
OTP of the Week
Lyra: Scott and Stiles on Teen Wolf. And I know what you’re thinking…is she a Sciles shipper? I’m not. But that doesn’t mean these two can’t be my OTP of the Week. Did you see Scott’s face when he was listening to Stiles voicemail? Pure love. His brother is out there transforming into a man he couldn’t be prouder of and all that Stiles wants is for Scott to follow his path and leave Beacon Hills. At the heart of it, this is the real love story of Teen Wolf. The love of two brothers.
Chloe: I’m a Stydia shipper through-and-through, but that surprise Derek appearance at the end of the Teen Wolf 6B premiere brought a lot of Sterek feelings back to the surface. That’s one dynamic I have definitely missed.
Charles: Charles and Liza on Younger. ABOUT TIME is what I said when Charles blurted out how he felt about Liza dating someone over 40 who wasn’t him. I am a Team Charles man through and through and the stunned faces of both let me know that some truths had just been spoken.
Erin: Let’s talk about that ending on Younger. FML – it’s about time Charles. My mouth dropped on the ground. AND I WAS LIKE: ABOUT TIME!
Moment that made you collapse into a puddle of FEELS
Lyra: Stiles voicemail on Teen Wolf. Our babies are finally grown up and going out there to conquer the world and we couldn’t be prouder. Stiles has come so far and gone through so much and it’s fantastic to see him follow in his father’s footsteps by joining a law enforcement agency. (You could hear it in his voice how excited he was!) Now the pack or whatever supernatural force that is out there will have someone within the humans that will understand what’s going on and help protect them or destroy them because they’re the bad guys going after the innocent. And it figures that his first case would be Derek. Those two have a thing about rescuing each other.
Chloe: If I’m being honest, the entire episode of Game of Thrones. Jon and Daenerys meeting is something we’ve been waiting for for SO long, and it didn’t disappoint. But the moment that really hit me hard emotionally was Bran’s return to Winterfell. I don’t typically cry when I watch movies or TV, but there were tears in my eyes at this long-awaited sibling reunion.
Charles: Mrs. S’s death in Orphan Black. I expected death in the final season of the show but this one still hurts. To have Mrs.S sacrifice herself for her family was a fitting way for her to go out. Maria Doyle Kennedy was the soul of this show and she got a fitting farewell.
Erin: I have been binge watching old TV this week, and I just watched the episode of Nashville where Raina died and I am still crying.
Quote of the Week
Brittany: “Tell Cersei. I want her to know it was me.” – Olenna, KWEEN of Thorns. She roasted Jamie and Cersei in the last moments of her life like the fierce boss she was, admitting she killed their son (also casually saying he was a see-you-next-Tuesday). I will miss her. – Game of Thrones
Lizzie: Daenerys Targaryen: Do you know what kept me standing through all those years in exile? Faith. Not in any gods, not in myths and legends. In myself. In Daenerys Targaryen. The world hadn’t seen a dragon in centuries until my children were born. The Dothraki hadn’t crossed the sea, any sea. They did for me. I was born to rule the Seven Kingdoms, and I will.
Jon Snow: You’ll be ruling over a graveyard if we don’t defeat the Night King. – Game of Thrones.
Chloe: “I’m not a Stark.” – Jon Snow, conveniently said right before a dragon swoops overhead. That’s a symbolism-heavy moment if I ever saw one. – Game of Thrones
Charles: “Chickens” – Mrs. S on Orphan Black
Erin: “I’m Nora Ephron, bitch!” – Sutton on The Bold Type
WTF Moment of the Week
Lyra: Rosita being a revenant on Wynonna Earp. I knew there was something strange about Rosita…I JUST WASN’T EXPECTING THIS! We spent a whole season last year killing revenants. Now the woman I’ve accepted into my heart as this cool chemist/bartender/spa buddy is the enemy that Wynonna kills. We must protect her! We must also look back at all the other revenants in contemplation and thought. Were they all bad? Or were they like Bobo? Victims of something they couldn’t control?
Chloe: Jorah’s seemingly instant grayscale cure. We get it, Sam’s amazing, but we’ve been led to believe that this disease is a death sentence. I didn’t really expect Jorah to not be cured, but I did think there would be a little more drama first.
Charles: Jaime and Cersei’s sex scene in Game of Thrones. I mean we all know their relationship but it still doesn’t make it any weirder. Also my WTF is to Jaime who knows she slowly losing it and still thinks with his little head instead of his big one. He needs to get out of there and book it to Brienne.
Erin: Jamie and Cersei’s sex scene about made me puke.
Lizzie: A big old amen to that Jaime and Cersei sex scene. It was so bad I’d erased it from my mind till Charles and Erin reminded me.
