NFL 2017 Pick Em: Week 2

The first week of the 2017 NFL season is in the books and we have found out a few things. The NFC North and AFC West look like the best divisions in football right now. Tom Brady and the Patriots MIGHT (big might) be vulnerable. And of course the Browns still lose like the Browns.

Week 2 gives us some highly entertaining QB match-ups like Brees vs. Brady and Rodgers vs Ryan. Which teams will keep up their momentum? Which teams will be one-week wonders? And how will the Chargers lose this close game this week? Check out our thoughts as me and the other writers on the staff (Alyssa, Lizzie and Katherine) give you our thoughts and predictions of week 2!

Houston Texans vs. Cincinnati Bengals (TNF)

Alyssa: Texans 21, Bengals 14 – With a half week to prepare for this week’s matchup, the Texans should a spark from rookie quarterback Deshaun Watson in a relatively boring Thursday Night matchup.

Lizzie: Texans 17, Bengals 10 – After what they did last week, how can I pick the Bengals? I’m sorry Andy, I really am.

Charles: Bengals 13, Texans 10 – This game continues the tradition of terrible Thursday Night matchups from the last year.

Katherine: Texans 24, Bengals 17 – Hoping this game turns out better for both teams than their first games…

Chicago Bears vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Alyssa: Buccaneers 28, Bears 20 – While this shouldn’t be the disaster that was last year’s matchup for the Bears, the offense just lacks any ability to compete with a Jameis Winston-led offense.

Lizzie: Buccaneers 28, Bears 20 – The Bears didn’t look bad last week, but they still don’t have what it takes to win this game.

Charles: Buccaneers 31, Bears 28 – Close but no cigar will be the motto of a lot of teams this season , especially for the Bears this first half of 2017.

Katherine: Buccaneers 28, Bears 24 – Jameis Winston and the Bucs will be itching to get off on the right foot after last weeks game being postponed, and while the Bears are close they’re still not close enough

Minnesota Vikings vs. Pittsburgh Steelers

Alyssa: Vikings 31, Steelers 21 – The Vikings offense put on a show against the Saints, and I’d expect more of the same against the Steelers. Plus, the Steelers just narrowly escaped the Browns. THE BROWNS.

Lizzie: Vikings 31, Steelers 17 – It gives me great pleasure to pick against the Steelers. The Vikings looked good last week.

Charles: Vikings 35, Steelers 20 – Sam Bradford and this defense is real and will prove it against a Steelers team that barely beat the Browns.

Katherine: Vikings 28, Steelers 17 – The Vikings played really well last week and they will definitely win this game, but I don’t expect a blowout

Arizona Cardinals vs. Indianapolis Colts

Alyssa: Cardinals 31, Colts 10 – The Colts are just a complete mess right now, and as they continue to deal with Andrew Luck’s (seemingly prolonged) absence, things are only going to get worse.

Lizzie: Cardinals 21, Colts 7 – The Colts suck right now. The Cardinals didn’t look good last week, but at least they’re not the Colts?

Charles: Cardinals 23, Colts 7 – The Colts stink without Andrew Luck and right now I don’t know how much a difference he’d make right now.

Katherine: Cardinals 35, Colts 10 – The Cardinals aren’t going to lose to an Andrew Luck-less Colts, right?

New England Patriots vs. New Orleans Saints

Alyssa: Patriots 38, Saints 21 – Tom Brady and the Patriots will certainly be pissed off following Thursday’s season opening loss to the Chiefs. Expect the real Tom Brady to show up as the Patriots dominate a struggling Saints squad.

Lizzie: Saints 38, Patriots 31 – What? A GIRL CAN DREAM, CAN’T SHE?

Charles: Patriots 34, Saints 31 – This is a toss-em game but Brady and the Pats never , ever lose two games in a row.

Katherine: Patriots 38, Saints 24 – You never want to be the team to get a pissed off Tom Brady and that’s what the Saints are being handed. Plus the Patriots just don’t lose two in a row, they just don’t.

Buffalo Bills vs. Carolina Panthers

Alyssa: Panthers 21, Bills 14 – Advantage goes to the Panthers for being at home. Should be a close matchup, but Cam Newton will find a way to get them the win.

Lizzie: Panthers 21, Bills 20 – Toss up. Home team gets the nod.

Charles: Panthers 23, Bills 19 – Tougher contest than the 49ers but see Cam pulling out the W here.

Katherine: Bills 24, Panthers 21 – Pretty even matchup but I’m gonna pick against everyone and give this one to the Bills.

Cleveland Browns vs. Baltimore Ravens

Alyssa: Ravens 27, Browns 13 – The Browns aren’t as terrible this season as we could’ve expected, but they’re still not going to be a team that beats you offensively.

Lizzie: Ravens 24, Browns 17 – The Browns aren’t as bad as I thought, and the Ravens aren’t as good as they think, but they still win this one.

Charles: Ravens 31, Browns 10 – Browns won’t embarrass themselves but the Ravens going to beat them down.

Katherine: Ravens 28, Browns 7 – The Ravens are just too much for the Browns, even if they played better than expected last week.

Tennessee Titans vs. Jacksonville Jaguars

Alyssa: Titans 27, Jaguars 24 – Before Week 1, I wouldn’t have pegged this a game to watch. But following the Jags’ impressive performance, I’m going to say this is going to be a lot closer and a lot more entertaining than I expected.

Lizzie:Jaguars 21, Titans 17 – I got them all wrong last week, so I’m going for unconventional.

Charles: Jaguars 24, Titans 17 – Maybe this is fools talk but I am aboard the Jaguars train and believe in them (For now)

Katherine: Titans 24, Jaguars 17 – Alyssa said everything that I was going to say here, closer than expected but the win still goes to Tennessee

Philadelphia Eagles vs. Kansas City Chiefs

Alyssa: Chiefs 31, Eagles 27 – Expect more of the same from this impressive Chiefs offense behind Alex Smith and Kareem Hunt. But also expect the Eagles to keep it close.

Lizzie: Chiefs 31, Eagles 27 – Yeah, the Chiefs are good. I hate it.

Charles: Chiefs 30, Eagles 20 – Chiefs running game looked impressive in the NE game. I see no signs of it stopping this week.

Katherine: Eagles 34, Chiefs 30 – I like Philly in this game and not just because the Chiefs beat my Patriots last week…..

New York Jets vs. Oakland Raiders

Alyssa: Raiders 38, Jets 13 – Derek Carr is hungry for more, and in this contest against the Jets, that’s exactly what he’s going to get. Expect the Raiders to handedly defeat the Jets.

Lizzie: Raiders 25, Jets 14 – The Raiders are also good. The AFC West looks like it’s gonna be fun.

Charles: Raiders 40, Jets 21 – Derek Carr is going to have a field day against these guys in Oakland, I think. Raiders are the best in the west and prove it here.

Katherine: Raiders 35, Jets 10 – The Raiders should have no problems with the Jets, they will likely run right through them

Miami Dolphins vs. Los Angeles Chargers

Alyssa: Dolphins 28, Chargers 21 – This Miami team is itching to play some football, and they’re got a lot to play for in this game against the Chargers. I see a convincing performance on both sides of the ball from the Dolphins.

Lizzie: Dolphins 28, Chargers 24 – The Chargers always manage to lose the close games, and this won’t be the exception.

Charles: Dolphins 30, Chargers 23 – Dolphins win a hard-fought, emotional battle in their first game of the season.

Katherine: Dolphins 28, Chargers 24 – Like with the Bucs I think the Dolphins just want to get out on the field and play. I expect them to pull this one out late in the fourth quarter of a good back and forth battle.

Dallas Cowboys vs. Denver Broncos

Alyssa: Cowboys 28, Broncos 17 – Assuming Zeke Elliott continues to stave off his six-game suspension, this high-powered Cowboys offense should take care of the Broncos.

Lizzie: Cowboys 21, Broncos 17 – I think the surprise factor is out for the Cowboys at this point, and I could see the Broncos defense shutting them down. I’m just not sure if the Broncos can play a clean game, but this is gonna be close.

Charles: Cowboys 24, Broncos 10 -Cowboys are just a better team than Denver right now especially on the offensive side of the ball. Denver’s D keeps them in it till the 4th Quarter.

Katherine: Cowboys 24, Broncos 20 –  Beyond annoyed that Elliott will still be playing this week but that’s enough to give the Cowboys the edge.

San Francisco 49ers vs. Seattle Seahawks

Alyssa: Seahawks 34, 49ers 6 – Say what you want about division games and whatnot. But also look at this 49ers squad that’s about to be on the receiving end of some pissed off Seahawks nursing a Week 1 loss. Once again, I’m being generous giving them 6.

Lizzie: Seahawks 31, 19ers 3 – I’m not giving the 49ers more than 3 points a game till they prove they know what a TD is.

Charles: Seahawks 30, 49ers 3 – This will be a beatdown of epic proportions.

Katherine: Seahawks 38, 49ers 7 – Does anyone actually think that the 49ers are going to win this game?

Washington Redskins vs. Los Angeles Rams

Alyssa: Rams 24, Redskins 14 – The Rams offense won’t be able to replicate its dominance from Week 1, but expect Jared Goff to continue to thrive in his second season as the Rams defeat a struggling Redskins team.

Lizzie: Rams 21, Redskins 14 – The Redskins look lost. Meanwhile, Goff looks good.

Charles: Rams 13, Redskins 9 -Rams’ defense is pretty good I still think so I give them the nod.

Katherine: Rams 34, Redskins 16 – What Lizzie said.

Green Bay Packers vs. Atlanta Falcons (SNF)

Alyssa: Falcons 38, Packers 34 – This no doubt is going to be a shoot-out between two of the best quarterbacks in the league. I’ll give it to the Falcons because they’re at home. But I wouldn’t be surprised if the result is flipped.

Lizzie: Falcons 38, Packers 34 – Maybe this is wishful thinking, but I want it …

Charles: Packers 38, Falcons 31 – A high-scoring affair and I will go with the better Quarterback here who is still named Aaron Rodgers.

Katherine: Packers 42, Falcons 35 – Advantage Packers, because they are the team with the better quarterback.

Detroit Lions vs. New York Giants (MNF)

Alyssa: Lions 31, Giants 28 – While I don’t foresee a replica of the Giants abysmal offense we got in Week 1, I just see Matthew Stafford and his Lions offense putting up more points in the end.

Lizzie: Lions 31, Giants 24 – I can’t pick the Giants right now, you know I can’t.

Charles: Lions 24, Giants 14 – Lions are a lot better than I expected. Giants are possibly a lot worse.

Katherine: Lions 31, Giants 24 – The Giants just yikes….
