We thought that things couldn’t get too much better than Ansel Elgort being cast in The Goldfinch. Because hey, we love us some him.
But we’re super excited for the next casting announcement.
Lord, what is better than one hot actor, who can actually fucking act, joining the adaptation of a book that is really good? TWO! Dunkirk’s Aneurin Barnard has been added to the cast of The Goldfinch.
Who will he play? Barnard will be Boris, a colourful Ukranian, the son of a Russian “businessman” who aids Theo in Las Vegas.
If you aren’t familiar with the plot here it is.
It begins with a boy. Theo Decker, a thirteen-year-old New Yorker, miraculously survives an accident that kills his mother. Abandoned by his father, Theo is taken in by the family of a wealthy friend. Bewildered by his strange new home on Park Avenue, disturbed by schoolmates who don’t know how to talk to him, and tormented above all by his unbearable longing for his mother, he clings to one thing that reminds him of her: a small, mysteriously captivating painting that ultimately draws Theo into the underworld of art.
As an adult, Theo moves silkily between the drawing rooms of the rich and the dusty labyrinth of an antiques store where he works. He is alienated and in love-and at the center of a narrowing, ever more dangerous circle.
Warner Bros is spearheading the adaptation with funding from Amazon. Amazon is helping to fund in exchange for streaming rights on their platform.
The Goldfinch is a great book. We’re excited for the adaptation.
