NBC has released the photos for tonight’s new episode of The Blacklist, “Ilyas Surkov”. It looks like we’re in for another intense night, as the task force chases down a blacklister setting off powerful bombs around the city.
Promotion for the episode has teased the death of “one of the team’s own”, but right now I suspect it’s all a misdirection. Judging by the photos showing the funeral in “Ilyas Surkov” the deceased character is not one of the main members of the task force. If it was, Cooper, and the rest of the task force would have been featured in their funeral garb. My guess right now is that the killer moves Doctor Nik’s body to get rid of evidence, and plants it at another crime scene that Liz discovers when chasing the new blacklister. This would explain why she looks to be the most upset in the funeral photos, as she was the person closest to Nik. Tom looks sad to see Liz upset, but not necessarily upset about the person who died. This also supports the theory that the funeral is for Doctor Nik, as Tom would be there to support Liz, but wasn’t close to Nik himself.
Of course, I could be wrong and The Blacklist might be dropping a major character death on us like a bombshell, but it doesn’t seem likely at the moment. You all get to say “I told you so” if my theory proves false.
An absence of major character death is my hope for “Ilyas Surkov” tonight, as I’m not ready to handle something like that so early in the season.

Synopsis:
When Red provides exclusive intel on an international terrorist, it puts Liz and the Task Force on a collision course with a rival unit from the CIA. Meanwhile, Red and Hawkins lay the groundwork for their new business venture, and Tom goes undercover in search of information.
